Africa is already one of the world’s most important sources of agricultural commodities. But the next opportunity is bigger: turning local raw materials into higher-value products in Africa.
MTN Côte d’Ivoire is a great example. It is a global leader in cocoa and cashew and a major exporter of rubber, bananas, palm oil and other crops. The next question is not only how to produce more, but what can be manufactured from this agricultural base?
This is one of the problems we are building Meallions to solve.
Meallions connects local agricultural raw materials with AI-based formulation, digital twins of industrial equipment and real food production.

1. Turning local crops into higher-value food products
Corn, rice, cassava, legumes and other ingredients can become fortified staples, instant foods, snacks, breakfast products and B2B ingredients.
Instead of exporting a low-value commodity, more value can remain locally through processing, manufacturing, jobs, know-how and branded products.

2. Using AI to design products around local economics
A food formulation is not only about nutrition or taste. It also depends on ingredient prices, availability, production cost, energy use, waste, equipment limitations and target price.

3. Testing production before scaling
Moving from a laboratory recipe to industrial production is a major risk.
Our digital twin models how a formulation can behave on a specific extrusion line and under specific processing conditions — reducing physical trial-and-error and shortening the path to a commercially viable product.
4. Managing variability in local raw materials
Moisture, starch, protein and other characteristics vary between suppliers, regions and harvests.
Meallions can connect these changes with formulation and process parameters, helping production adapt instead of starting from scratch each time.
5. Scaling what works
Once a product is produced and validated, manufacturing data returns to the system. The next factory, line or country does not have to start from zero.
Our first production facility is being developed in Nairobi to test the full cycle:
local raw materials → AI formulation → digital twin → real production → measured results → scaling
For me, this is one of the biggest opportunities for African agriculture.
The future is not only about exporting more cocoa, cashew, maize or cassava.
It is about exporting products, technology and intellectual property created from them — while keeping much more of the value where the agricultural value chain begins.
