Fragaria, founded by Harish Varadharajan, Timothy van Niekerk and Damián López Salazar, is reportedly in talks to raise ₹40 crore in a fresh funding round led by Blume Ventures. Existing investors, including WEH Ventures and Rainmatter, are also expected to participate. The agritech startup is focused on controlled-environment and vertical farming to grow premium berries, beginning with European-style strawberries. Its approach aims to address challenges around consistent quality and year-round availability of premium fruits in India. The potential round comes after Fragaria raised $2 million in seed funding led by WEH Ventures. The company has been working on expanding its operations and developing infrastructure for other premium berries such as blueberries and raspberries. Hey everyone, I am super excited to share that Techno Smart Club won the 3rd prize at the Eureka! 2026 pitch event ! 🥉 The event was organized by E-Cell GKV in association with IIT Bombay, and we were up against 22 really amazing teams. To be completely honest, as the event went on and we saw the other pitches, we actually lost hope of winning anything. The competition was that tough. We were just sitting there waiting for it to wrap up, so when they finally announced our names at the end, we were absolutely shocked and thrilled! We pitched our project, Techno Flora—our automated plant grow box. I think what really made the difference was bringing our actual, physical hardware prototype to the stage to show it working in real life, rather than just clicking through a presentation. It felt amazing to see all those hours of building and troubleshooting actually pay off. Turning Agricultural Data into Actionable Insights with Power BI I’m excited to share my latest Data Analytics Capstone Project — an interactive Power BI dashboard analysing agricultural output by state across Rice, Cassava, and Yam in Nigeria. For this project, I worked through the complete data analytics process: 🔹 Data cleaning and preparation 🔹 Data modelling and relationships 🔹 KPI development 🔹 Interactive dashboard design 🔹 State-level and crop-level analysis 🔹 Identification of output and loss patterns 🔹 Translating data into actionable insights. The dashboard provides a clear view of total agricultural output, losses, loss rates, crop performance, and state-level variations, helping stakeholders understand where production is performing well and where improvement may be needed. One of the key lessons from this project is that data is not just about numbers ,it is about using those numbers to tell a story and support better decisions. This project has strengthened my practical skills in Power BI, data analysis, data visualisation, and business intelligence, and I’m excited to continue building projects that solve real-world problems with data. 🌾 ICAR’s 97th AGM: A New Roadmap for India’s Agricultural Transformation 🇮🇳 The 97th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has highlighted a clear vision for the next phase of Indian agriculture — farmer-centric, demand-driven and technology-led development. 🔹 386 new crop varieties were released, with 94% climate-resilient and 29 biofortified varieties. 🔹 Foodgrain production increased by around 19 million tonnes. 🔹 Greater focus on integrated farming systems to diversify farmers’ incomes. 🔹 Emphasis on quality seeds, soil health, balanced fertiliser use and sustainable agriculture. 🔹 Stronger ICAR–industry partnerships to accelerate technology transfer from laboratories to farmers. 🔹 Advances in genomics, genome editing, livestock health, fisheries, soil health and natural farming. 🌱 The message is clear: agricultural research should not remain confined to laboratories. Professors, Faculty Members and Instructors from different Universities and TVET ( Technical and Vocational Education and Technology ) Institutes situated in Gilgit Baltistan, KPK and Baluchistan were participants. It was a challenge to fill the Andragogy gap of participants from diverse backgrounds, age group and experiences. Hands on projects, Psychomotor skills, outcomes based on market need assessment and engaging students/trainees more than Instructor lecture or demonstration was emphasized. Participants happily made their own projects with perspective of knowledge transfer related to Precision Agri Farm Analysis, Automotive Robotics, Aerial Robotics / Drones etc. Training was managed by British Council and venue was National University of Technology (NUTECH). Wonderful contribution by team of AXI Technologies specially Abdullah Rizwan who managed most of the labs part and Umer Aziz who assisted in hardware management and technical assistance. All trainers were quite enthusiastic to integrate hardware based out of classroom projects aligned with industrial needs in their respective organizations. 💧 Can smart irrigation work effectively without continuous field sensor monitoring? This is one of the key questions we explored in a recent white paper developed at VAIMEE. Together with my colleague Galavizh Azarbarzin, I contributed to the field validation of AGORÀ, VAIMEE’s Digital Twin and decision-support solution for smart irrigation. Using data from commercial potato production, we evaluated AGORÀ under real farming conditions by comparing its irrigation recommendations with actual irrigation management supported by field sensors, weather data, and direct field observations. The validation showed strong alignment between AGORÀ’s recommendations and real-world irrigation decisions, while also highlighting the importance of field-specific calibration and reliable environmental data. What I found particularly valuable about this work was seeing how agronomic knowledge, environmental data, and modelling can come together to translate research into practical decision-support tools for agriculture.
