Recently, I participated in Hack Devengers 2.0, where I got the opportunity to build and submit KrishiNext — a project focused on helping farmers make more informed decisions using technology. 🌱 What KrishiNext does: Provides crop recommendations based on farmer and environmental data Considers factors such as soil type and water availability Helps with decisions around seed selection, fertilizers, and farming techniques Uses weather trends and historical data to support recommendations Includes a market connection to help farmers with the next step after cultivation We successfully submitted the project and received a Certificate of Appreciation for our contribution to the hackathon. I didn't make it to the finalist stage, and honestly, there are things I could have done better. But building KrishiNext and taking part in the hackathon showed me areas where I still need to improve — both technically and in how I approach problem-solving. I'm still learning, still experimenting, and trying to become better with every project. Industrial hemp Style to Seed 🌱 I am happy to share the exciting progress from our industrial hemp research in UF/IFAS West Florida Research & Education Center. Through a collaboration with the Cornell University Hemp Breeding Program, our industrial hemp seed multiplication trial is now at the reproductive stage, with the male plants flowering ahead of the females. This research is an important step toward the production of hemp foundation seed developed using molecular markers, supporting reliable seed multiplication and agronomic production systems under Florida conditions. The project demonstrates the value of cross-institutional collaboration in addressing emerging opportunities in agricultural production and crop improvement. Gratitude for the crucial support and coordination of my adviser, Dr. Hardeep Singh and members of the UF/IFAS Agronomy Department Cropping Systems Team for their continued technical support in this project. Agriculture loses an estimated $99 billion every year to disasters worldwide, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Yet one of the biggest challenges is still turning environmental data into information people can actually use. For Hack The Weather 2026, a student hackathon focused on using real environmental sensor data from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Kenya to build climate and sustainability solutions, I built Conduit FarmGuard. Using 2,184 real weather observations across 22 sensor fields, spanning September 1 to September 23, 2026, FarmGuard turns temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind, and heat stress data into an explainable Agricultural Weather Stress Score and practical field recommendations. I built it using Python, Pandas, FastAPI, React, and Gemini. The risk score comes from a transparent analytics engine, while Gemini explains the result in simpler language. I also designed the data layer so FarmGuard can work with additional weather datasets containing supported sensor fields, rather than being tied to one file. One thing I was especially careful about was uncertainty. Since the dataset does not include soil moisture, FarmGuard does not claim that irrigation is required. It tells the user when direct field and soil verification is still needed. This project became personal for me too. FlahaX—a Python package for formulating hydroponic and fertigation nutrient solutions. FlahaX starts with two practical inputs: • the crop nutrient target • the actual water analysis It then evaluates the fertilizer-salt library and calculates a non-negative combination, in grams per litre, that meets the target as closely as possible. This is not a replacement for agronomic judgement. It is a transparent calculation layer to help agronomists, growers and developers review formulations more consistently and understand the nutrient balance behind every recipe. The first operational hardening review has also been completed and resolved in the project repository. It strengthened validation, salt eligibility and formulation safeguards.
