I'm delighted to share that our team Smart Sync Squad participated in the Innovate 4 Impact: AI4SDG Global Hackathon 2026, organized by IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group in association with the Department of CSE, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Engineering, Pune. 🌱 Our Project – Krishi-Mitra: AI-Powered Digital Farm Twin Krishi-Mitra is an AI-powered farming assistant that helps farmers detect crop diseases, access market intelligence, make profit-based selling decisions, and optimize transportation and cold storage to reduce crop losses and distress sales. 🏆 Three Rounds. One Month. Countless Learnings. We successfully cleared the initial PPT screening and abstract submission round, qualified through the semi-finale with our video submission and progress report on prototype development, and advanced to the Grand Finale, where our project was evaluated by the jury panel virtually. Although we couldn't secure a win, we gave our 100% effort, dedication, and teamwork throughout this one-month journey. Every round taught us something valuable and helped us grow as innovators. After harvest, a crop's value depends on how well it is cleaned, sorted and graded. Post-harvest machinery does three jobs: 1. Cleaning: removes dust, stones, chaff and foreign matter 2. Sorting: separates produce by size, colour or defects 3. Grading: groups produce so each grade can be priced and sold properly Then comes storage. Produce that is handled badly loses quality before it reaches the buyer. Small farmers and FPOs often do these steps by hand. A machine sized to their batch, not to a giant factory, can change that. Global Ambitions: The Startups Crossing Borders and Winning Markets In recent years, Central Asia has experienced a rapid growth in startup activity, driven by factors such as increasing internet penetration, access to funding, and a burgeoning culture of entrepreneurship Startups in the region are leveraging technology to address local and global challenges, disrupt traditional industries, and create innovative solutions for the market. From e-commerce platforms and fintech startups to agritech and health tech ventures, Central Asian startups are making their mark on the global stage, attracting attention from global investors and industry players alike RISE Research reports that venture funding reached $320 million in 2025 However, Higgsfield and Uzum accounted for 61% of the total Excluding these deals, funding still grew 31% to $124.5 million—a useful reminder that both momentum and concentration matter. (rise.com.kz⁠, timesca.com⁠) Three routes to international growth stand out: • Building for global markets. Higgsfield, with founders connected to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, raised $400 million at a $5.4 billion valuation in August 2026. The $1 billion annual revenue run rate reported by Higgsfield in September. The company combines a San Francisco headquarters with a major engineering hub in Almaty and identifies the US as its largest market. I’m excited to share our newly published research in Discover Soil (Springer Nature ): 📄 “Target yield based integrated nutrient management improves greengram productivity, nutrient uptake and soil biological quality in an Alfisol.” Link - https://lnkd.in/guSK3H6G Our study demonstrates how FYM-adjusted STCR-IPNS can connect target-yield nutrient management with crop productivity, NPK uptake, rhizosphere microbial activity, enzyme-mediated nutrient cycling, and soil quality assessment. The 1.2 t ha⁻¹ STCR-IPNS treatment showed the strongest overall response under the tested Alfisol conditions. This publication further motivates my interest in developing data-driven and geospatial approaches for sustainable soil and agricultural management. 🤝 Open to collaborations! Last week, on 24th and 25th September, I attended IEEE Bangalore Technology Conclave (BTC) 2026 organized by the IEEE BANGALORE SECTION, and it was a great couple of days filled with interesting sessions, conversations, and plenty of things to explore afterwards. The theme this year was System & Software Co-design for Sustainable AI, and I got to attend sessions covering everything from Quantum Computing and Embodied AI to IoT security and sustainable AI. The session I enjoyed the most was Dr. Ranveer Chandra's keynote on AI and data analytics in agriculture. I’ve mostly encountered AI through software, models, and applications, so it was really interesting to see it from the perspective of agriculture. The discussion around using data, AI, and technology to understand crops, soil, and farming better made me realise how much room there is for AI outside the problems we usually associate it with. I also attended tutorials on Quantum Computing with Qniverse and Embodied AI & Robotics, both of which introduced me to areas I haven’t had much exposure to before. Experiences like this have been one of the things I’ve come to value most about being part of IEEE. The opportunity to attend events like BTC, interact with people from different backgrounds, and learn directly from researchers and industry professionals is something I’m genuinely glad I’ve been able to experience. A week later, I still have a few talks bookmarked, a few topics to read about, and a lot of curiosity left. Instead of manually counting fruit, the system analyzes a live camera or video feed and automatically detects, tracks, and counts each melon moving through the production line. Pipeline: Camera Feed → Object Detection → Tracking → Counting → Real-Time Analytics The system can help with: → Automatic fruit detection → Real-time counting → Tracking objects across frames → Reducing duplicate counts → Production monitoring → Inventory and throughput analytics → Farm, warehouse, and packaging automation The main challenge is not only detecting the fruit. It is making sure the same object is not counted multiple times while it moves through the frame. That is where object tracking + computer vision become important.
