🌍 Honoured to Have Presented Three Research Papers at ZCICT 2025!
Yesterday, I had the privilege of presenting three research papers at the 4th Zimbabwe Conference on Information Communication & Technology (ZCICT 2025). These works highlight my commitment to advancing AI, IoT, Cybersecurity, and Precision Agriculture, with solutions designed for practical deployment in resource-constrained environments.
Our first presentation showcased a low-cost IoT- and machine learning–enabled automated irrigation system that achieved a 16.7% reduction in water use while maintaining crop health. Built using affordable IoT sensors and a Gradient Boosting model (AUC 0.98; accuracy 91.5%), the system demonstrated strong potential for sustainable precision farming.
We also presented an AI-driven stacked ensemble model for healthcare threat and incident detection, combining Random Forest and XGBoost to better secure medical networks. The model reached 88.49% accuracy on the UNSW-NB15 dataset and integrates with a real-time monitoring dashboard to strengthen cybersecurity in hospitals and clinics.
Our third paper introduced an IoT-powered tomato leaf disease surveillance system using the ESP32-CAM and a lightweight CNN model. With an accuracy of 95.7%, real-time alerts, and cloud-based analytics, this system offers smallholder farmers an accessible tool for early disease detection and improved crop health management.
All three systems have now been successfully tested, validated, and presented, demonstrating strong real-world feasibility. With the prototypes and models complete, we are now actively seeking funding, industry partners, and collaborators to support large-scale deployment, pilot programmes, and community rollouts.
