Pakistan and South Korea have announced a partnership to set up a state-of-the-art Seed Potato Production and Supply Centre (SPPSC) in Islamabad, aimed at reducing the country’s reliance on imported seed potatoes.
The initiative, supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), will bring in cutting-edge technologies such as aeroponics, tissue culture, and modern cold-chain systems.
The centre is expected to boost potato productivity by up to 20% and supply virus-free, certified seeds to more than 100,000 farmers.
Additionally, the project will focus on training, postharvest management, and building institutional capacity, contributing to national food security, increasing rural incomes, and modernizing Pakistan’s potato industry.
