⚡ “Innovation is not just about creating something new; it is about finding smarter solutions to real-world problems.” 🌱 I’m happy to share that I had the opportunity to participate in 𝐏𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐇, organized by 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐚 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 ,𝐓𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐮, on 16th December 2025. 🌾 Our Problem Statement : "𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐮𝐛 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬" As part of the event, our team worked on a real-world agricultural problem root grub detection in sugarcane plants. We explored an IoT-based approach for detecting root grub infestation, with the aim of developing a technology-driven solution that could support the early identification of the problem. Working on this project gave me valuable practical exposure to IoT concepts, problem identification, innovative thinking, teamwork, and presenting a technical solution. 🏆 Proud to share that our project received a 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞, along with a Participation Certificate. 🥇📜 For me, this experience was much more than just an award. It gave me the opportunity to step beyond the classroom, work on a real-world agricultural challenge, collaborate with my teammates, exchange ideas, and learn throughout the process. 🇵🇪 Genetic Improvement is Driving Peru's Agricultural Future Innovation in agriculture starts with better genetics. Through the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), Peru has developed more than 200 improved crop varieties, delivering remarkable productivity gains for farmers across the country. 📈 Proven results: - 🥔 Potato: More than 40 improved varieties have increased productivity by 70–80%, reaching yields of 40–50 tons per hectare while improving resistance to diseases and climate stress. - 🌾 Rice (INIA 515 Capoteña): Yields of up to 12 t/ha, compared with approximately 10 t/ha for conventional commercial varieties—an increase of around 20%. - 🌽🫘🌾 Maize, wheat, barley, quinoa, beans, faba beans and tarwi: New INIA varieties have increased field productivity by up to 60% in Peru's Andean regions. - 🚜 Technology transfer: Farmers using INIA's improved genetics together with recommended agronomic practices have achieved up to 80% higher yields in demonstration plots across 15 regions. These achievements demonstrate that genetic improvement, combined with modern agronomic management, is one of the most powerful tools to increase productivity, strengthen food security, and improve farmers' incomes.
