Day 1 | Understanding the Genomics Revolution
Today marked the beginning of an insightful journey into Bioinformatics for Agri-Tech Innovations.
Coming from a technology background,
Day 1 was particularly interesting because it helped connect technology with something fundamental to all of us and i.e agriculture and food security.
We explored how the Genomics Revolution is transforming agriculture, understood the molecular foundations of DNA, genes, genomes and genetic variation, and learned how bioinformatics enables us to store, analyse and interpret genomic data. we also explored the journey and evolution of DNA sequencing technologies.
One thought that stayed with me is the growing challenge of limited agricultural land and increasing food demand. The question is no longer simply how to cultivate more land, but how we can make the resources we already have more productive, resilient and sustainable.
This is where technologies like genomics and bioinformatics have immense potential from understanding genetic variation to supporting crop improvement, molecular breeding, precision agriculture and sustainable agriculture.
A valuable first day of learning, perspective-building and understanding how technology, biology and agriculture can come together to shape the future of food.
