AI, Agri-Startups, and the Future of Rural India, my key takeaways from HARVEST 2.0 at PI-RAHI, IIT Ropar.
For the last several years, our work has revolved around one core question: how do we make Indian agriculture more resilient, more efficient, and more future-ready?
I have spent that time working directly with farming communities and cooperatives across Punjab, implementing climate-smart practices, building on-ground adoption of sustainable techniques, and seeing firsthand what it actually takes to move agriculture from tradition to transformation. It is slow, hands-on work, but it's proof that change in Indian farming is possible when the right technology meets the right execution on the ground.
So when I attended HARVEST 2.0, a three-day regional programme at PI-RAHI & IIT Ropar. I was nt just an audience member. I was validating what years of field experience have already taught me.
Here's what stood out: the FPO-to-enterprise shift is real, cooperatives are no longer just aggregators, they're becoming market-facing, tech-enabled businesses, and I've watched this shift happen slowly on the ground over the years, so it was clear that HARVEST 2.0 is turning it into institutional policy. AI in agriculture has also moved well past the buzzword phase, predictive advisories, resource optimisation, and precision farming are no longer pilots, they're becoming real infrastructure, and what rural India needs now are professionals who can bridge AI capability with ground-level adoption.
It was also encouraging to see that government-backed startup ecosystems are maturing fast, with bodies like NEDAC and accelerators like PI-RAHI building real pipelines that connect cooperatives, youth, and innovation, not just funding announcements. But if there's one thing that stood out above everything else, it's that the biggest gap isn't technology; it's translation. India doesn't lack innovation, it lacks enough people who can translate lab-grade tech into field-ready solutions for cooperatives and farmers who've never used an app before.
That's the space I've built my career in. After this event, I'm more convinced than ever that this is where the next decade of Indian agriculture will be won.
