This is more than a weed-control machine, it represents a potential paradigm shift in modern agriculture. If this technology can effectively eliminate weeds using heat or fire without damaging crops, it could significantly reduce dependence on chemical herbicides, minimize chemical residues in food and soil, and help farmers address the growing challenge of herbicide-resistant weeds. The implications for crop production are enormous: cleaner produce, healthier soils, reduced environmental contamination, and greater consumer confidence in agricultural products. It also poses an interesting challenge to the agrochemical industry. As farmers increasingly seek sustainable and residue-free production systems, innovations like this could accelerate the transition from chemical-intensive farming toward precision, technology-driven agriculture. We've been a little quiet lately. There's a reason. ⚙️🌱👀 After the Kilikawi Challenge, Team Pentagon went straight back to the workshop. 🔧🛠️ The last few weeks have been about something much less glamorous than winning competitions: iteration. 🔄⚙️ Our Integrated Smart Control & Drive System had to move from a competition prototype toward something that could actually survive the field. 🌾🚜 First up: the electronics. ⚡🔌💻 Our first version lived on a cracked perfboard with hand-soldered components — more of an experiment than a product. 😂🔩 But it worked, and that gave us something to build on. From there: V2 → V3 → V3.5 → V4 (2-layer) → V4 (4-layer). ⚙️📐🔌 Every version brought something new to fix, simplify, or improve. 🔄🛠️ As a Mechanical Engineering student, I never imagined having an EasyEDA account, designing PCB layouts, and soldering boards like it's nobody's busines or having people mistake me for an Electrical Engineer — Sarah Kendall included! 😂⚡ Engineering doesn't always respect discipline boundaries. You start with what you know, then learn what the problem demands. 🧠⚙️ A very huge part of that learning, designing and reviewing came from Silard Liptak, and Adrian on electronics, while Sarah Kendall continues guiding us toward real-world testing. 🌱🛠️A good part of my PCB design journey was also stirred by Glenn Gatiba and @Collins Goti who happen to already have a good foundation from their mechatronics backgrounds. Shoutout to our behind-the-scenes engine: • @BluePack nova: Sourcing essential components ⚡📦 • Bersher Guyanda: Procurement & logistics 🛒🔧 • @Declan: Crucial mechanical hacks 🛠️💡 You don't always start with the skills you need. ICYA Morocco 2026 — Immersion dans l'agriculture de demain ! Le 09 août 2026, les participants de l'ICYA 2026 ont eu l'occasion de visiter la serre high-tech du Complexe Horticole d'Agadir, véritable vitrine du savoir-faire agricole marocain en matière de cultures sous abri. Entre systèmes d'irrigation intelligents, contrôle climatique automatisé et techniques de production raisonnée, cette visite a offert aux jeunes étudiants agronomes internationaux un aperçu concret de la manière dont l'innovation technologique répond aujourd'hui aux défis liés au stress hydrique et à la sécurité alimentaire. Un moment fort qui a suscité de nombreux échanges sur les perspectives d'avenir de l'agriculture de précision au Maroc et à l'international. Cette découverte s'inscrit pleinement dans la continuité du thème de cet événement, en illustrant très concrètement comment la recherche et l'innovation peuvent transformer les pratiques agricoles face à la rareté croissante des ressources en eau. Un grand merci à Mme. Meriem Ait Attou, ingénieure agronome responsable de la serre high-tech, pour son accueil et le partage de son expertise avec les participants. 🙏🌱

In pursuit of sustainable environmental and agricultural solutions, I am pleased to share that I have completed the InnovEgypt program by TIEC / ITIDA (45 intensive training hours) in entrepreneurship and innovation. As part of the program's final milestone, we developed the Business Model Canvas for our project, StrawSense: An AgriTech solution aimed at turning agricultural waste (such as rice straw) into sustainable economic value by producing biochar to enhance soil properties and reduce water consumption, alongside integrating affordable IoT sensors to help farmers boost productivity. This experience added a lot to my understanding of market validation, value proposition design, and transforming technical ideas into viable business models. Moving forward, I am genuinely excited to continue working on developing this project further and bringing it to life on the ground! 🌱 Visite super enrichissante des serres de Jacky Chéron avec Patrick Lubszynski ! Propriétaire des serres, Jacky Chéron nous a fait découvrir ses installations et partager son expérience. Nous avons parcouru les rangs de concombres, d’aubergines et de poivrons et, honnêtement, la technicité mise en œuvre derrière tout cela est bluffante. Quelques points qui m’ont particulièrement marqué : 🌿 La lutte biologique : zéro insecticide chimique. Des « insectes auxiliaires » (prédateurs naturels) sont introduits directement pour éliminer les ravageurs, comme les pucerons. La nature fait le travail ! 🔥 La cogénération et la valorisation de l’énergie : deux cogénérations fonctionnant au gaz naturel produisent de l’électricité, revendue lorsque les besoins en électricité sont les plus élevés, notamment au cœur de l’hiver. La chaleur produite est récupérée pour chauffer les serres. ♻️ La valorisation du CO₂ : le CO₂ issu de la cogénération est récupéré et injecté dans les serres pour enrichir l’air en CO₂, directement utilisé par les plantes pour leur photosynthèse et leur croissance. 🌡️ Le climat maîtrisé au millimètre : des brumisateurs et une ventilation automatique permettent de maintenir une hygrométrie maîtrisée et d’éviter les coups de chaud aux plants. 💧 Une gestion de l’eau particulièrement performante : l’eau et les nutriments sont apportés directement au pied des plantes par goutte-à-goutte. L’eau qui n’est pas absorbée par les racines est récupérée, puis réinjectée dans le système : un véritable circuit fermé. Cette optimisation permet de réduire très fortement la consommation d’eau par rapport à une culture en pleine terre, où une rande partie de l’eau est perdue par infiltration profonde ou évaporation. 📈 Le rendement : les plants grimpent en hauteur, ce qui permet de produire beaucoup sur une surface au sol très limitée. Une belle démonstration qu’il est possible d’allier performance agricole, optimisation énergétique, économie de la ressource en eau et respect du vivant, grâce à des technologies et des méthodes bien pensées.
