Although we couldn’t make it into the Top 10, reaching the Top 40 gave us an incredible opportunity to turn our idea into a working AI + hardware solution and present it at the event. 🌾 What is KAVACH? KAVACH is an AI-powered automated crop protection system designed to detect unwanted entities around agricultural fields and respond intelligently based on the situation. At its core is the Rakshak Tower — a modular agricultural protection tower designed by our team with Basic, Standard, and Premium configurations, allowing customization for different farm requirements and budgets. ⚙️ How it works PIR Sensor → Camera → YOLOv8 → Decision System → Raspberry Pi → Action 🔹 PIR sensors provide the first level of detection. 🔹 Cameras activate when activity is detected. 🔹 YOLOv8 with COCO-pretrained weights identifies animals, birds, and humans. 🔹 The decision system determines the appropriate response. 🔹 Animals/birds can trigger suitable deterrent mechanisms. 🔹 When a human is detected, no deterrent action is triggered, preventing unnecessary activation around people. ⚡ Power-Efficient Design Using PIR as the initial trigger helps reduce unnecessary camera and system operation. One of the biggest food safety success stories in recent years didn't come from a new regulation alone. It came from combining consumer awareness, rapid testing, and better practices—proving that turmeric adulteration is a solvable problem when the entire value chain works together... A Bangladesh intervention between 2019 and 2021 reduced adulterated turmeric samples from 47% to 0%. At the same time, median blood lead levels in the affected population fell by 30%. That's a remarkable reminder that food safety improves when prevention replaces correction. The lesson extends beyond testing. If the goal is to eliminate adulteration, the supply chain must make it easier to produce high-quality turmeric from the very beginning. Cleaner processing, standardized practices, and traceability all reduce opportunities for contamination while increasing buyer confidence. This is where Rapid Rhizome Technology (RRT) contributes to the solution. By significantly reducing the drying time of fresh turmeric and ginger, RRT enables faster, cleaner, and more standardized post-harvest processing. It helps preserve valuable bioactive compounds such as curcumin and gingerol while producing more consistent raw material. Its scalable processing model also allows Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and local farmers to process closer to the source, supporting traceable, export-ready supply chains. Food safety is rarely achieved by one intervention. It is built through better science, better technology, informed consumers, and stronger supply chains working together. If a coordinated approach could eliminate adulteration in one region, what could India achieve by combining policy, testing, and post-harvest innovation at scale?
