When Traceability Meets AI: Are We Still Tracing the Product—or the Intelligence Behind It?
On 8 September 2026, the Netherlands' DigitaliseringsEvent 2026 brings together the horticulture ecosystem around a timely agenda: AI, digitalisation, data ownership and better data-driven cultivation decisions.

That conversation raises a larger issue for AgriTech.
Traceability was traditionally designed to answer:
Where did this agricultural product come from?
But increasingly, farm data is feeding much more than supply-chain tracking.
Geospatial observations can inform risk.
Production histories can influence credit assessment.
Field evidence can support carbon MRV.
Traceability records can contribute to ESG claims.
AI can transform all of these signals into decisions.
At AgAutomate Pvt. Ltd., this is precisely the architectural boundary I am exploring—connecting plot-level provenance, time-stamped evidence, traceability events, MRV, and governance so that downstream intelligence retains a defensible connection to its source.
This also resonates with the broader work of @CGIAR, whose AI Hub is focused on translating agricultural science and data into practical AI products for real-world decision-making.

And that leads me to one question for the AgriTech community:
If agricultural data increasingly drives credit, carbon, ESG and AI decisions, should traceability evolve from tracing the product to tracing the evidence behind the intelligence?
Perhaps that is where the next generation of agricultural traceability begins.
Interested in how AgriTech researchers, technology companies and ecosystem builders across the Netherlands, Canada, India and beyond are approaching this convergence.
