    La fin de la sécheresse (météorologique) a été marquée par le début de la saison des orages méditerranéens offrant un spectacle grandiose durant l'intégralité de la nuit passée. Quelques centaines de photos entre l'Hortus (ici à droite) et le Pic Saint Loup (ici sortant du nuage à gauche), dont de nombreux coups de foudre ramifiés !     On enchaîne. Il est maintenant très probable que nous allons vivre l'El-Nino le plus intense depuis le début de son observation sur Terre (et surement depuis des siècles). Les premiers effets se font sentir avec un décrochage total des températures mondiales. Le mois d'août 2026 pourrait être le mois d'août le plus chaud sur Terre depuis le début des mesures. Nous ne sommes qu'à 0.11°C du record absolu mondial de température et 0.01°C du record absolu de la surface des océans. La méditerranée enchaîne les records absolus de température avec une canicule marine qui dure depuis des semaines avec jusqu'à +3 à +6°C d'anomalie. Les derniers relevés montrent qu'avec une moyenne de 28.5°C, la surface de la mer Méditerranée vient de battre son record absolu de température. En d'autres termes, la mer Méditerranée n'a jamais été aussi chaude tous mois confondus. Ce n'est que le début. Nous sommes partis pour 1 an d'incroyables records à l'échelle planétaire.

Meet Deep Purple – A Promising Candidate for the Next Generation of Mango Varieties As global demand for mangoes continues to grow and climate change reshapes agricultural conditions, the challenge is no longer just producing more fruit – it's developing varieties that can thrive in the decades ahead. At MIGAL and Northern R&D Dr. Navot Galpaz is leading an advanced mango breeding program designed to develop the next generation of Israeli mango varieties. The program combines traditional breeding with smart selection tools to identify varieties that offer superior fruit quality, outstanding flavor, longer shelf life, attractive peel color, and improved adaptation to changing climate conditions. Today, approximately 5,000 seedlings are growing in the breeding orchard. From this diverse population, five outstanding candidates have been selected for further evaluation. One of them has already earned the name Deep Purple, inspired by its striking deep-purple peel. Developing a new fruit tree variety is a long-term endeavor that can take more than a decade. Yet the outcome has the potential to shape the future of Israel's mango industry, helping growers remain competitive in international markets while meeting the challenges of a changing climate.
