🏆🌍 TiE Dubai has named five regional winners in the seventh edition of its TiE Women MENA program. The selected startups represent Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the wider Middle East and an Emirati-focused track. Their founders will compete for the MENA title during GITEX Global 2026 in December. 👩‍💼🚀 Naglaa Mohammad of P-Vita, Léa Mehaweg Testa of Maison Safqa and Anuscha Iqbal of Qanooni AI won the Egypt, Saudi Arabia and UAE tracks, respectively. Rowan Alawi, CEO of Trase, secured the Rest of MENA category. Aisha Alyassi, Founder and Brand Director of SCULP WEAR, was named the Emirati track winner. 📊💡 More than 250 licensed, women-founded businesses applied to TiE Women MENA in 2026, compared with almost 200 applications in 2025. The program shortlisted 228 founders, with 46 advancing to virtual regional finals held from September 8 to 17. Applicants represented fields including AI, SaaS, AgriTech, FoodTech, HealthTech, sustainability and fashion. 🎤🤝 Each winner will receive a dedicated showcase pod at Expand North Star during GITEX Global 2026. The five founders will also continue receiving individual mentorship focused on their pitches, market strategies and investor materials. Program Co-Chairs Carlina Marani and Shameema Parveen said the cohort stood out for the quality of its pitches and the diversity of industries represented. 💰📉 The initiative comes amid a persistent funding gap for women entrepreneurs across the region. Figures provided by TiE Dubai show that female-founded startups secured $2.5 million during the first half of 2026, equivalent to only 0.14% of the region’s $1.7 billion in venture funding. Over four years, TiE Women MENA has supported more than 1,000 women-led businesses, curated over 350 pitches and awarded approximately $103,000 in equity-free prizes. 🌐✨ Globally, TiE Women has received more than 11,000 applications across 62 countries and accelerated over 500 women-led startups. The regional program is operated by TiE Dubai and powered by Nokia, with support from TECOM Group Dubai, Dubai Internet City and in5 Innovation Centers. Mais avant la technologie, une question est essentielle : Où implanter le projet pour garantir sa viabilité technique, économique et opérationnelle ? 1. ÉNERGIE Refroidissement, chauffage, ventilation, déshumidification, pompage, LED et automatisation peuvent représenter une part importante de l’OPEX. Exemple : 1 000 000 kWh/an à 0,08 €/kWh = 80 000 €/an À 0,16 €/kWh = 160 000 €/an Différence : 80 000 €/an. 2. EAU Disponibilité ne signifie pas qualité. Analyser : pH, EC, TDS, alcalinité, Na, Cl, Ca, Mg et bicarbonates. Selon la qualité, prévoir filtration, osmose inverse, désinfection, stockage et recyclage. 3. In December 2025, Tanzania's Diana Orembe became the overall winner of Africa's Business Heroes, Alibaba's flagship entrepreneurship competition, beating sixty founders across twenty countries and securing $300,000 in prize money. The judges were backing a microbiologist from Dar es Salaam who had spent five years figuring out how to turn food waste into the most affordable fish feed in Tanzania. 💡 This week on #HowSustainabilityWorks, we look at NovFeed. Founded in 2020 by Diana Orembe and Otaigo Elisha (Msc, Bsc ), NovFeed was built around three interconnected problems in Tanzanias food system. The country faces a 480,000 tonne annual fish supply gap as wild catches decline. Fish farmers struggle with expensive, poor quality feed, while millions of tonnes of organic waste end up in landfills and farmers face unmet demand for affordable fertiliser. NovFeeds answer is to connect these problems. Using proprietary microbial fermentation technology, the company converts organic waste into high protein biomass that becomes sustainable fish feed and organic fertiliser. The residual byproduct from feed production goes back into the soil as fertiliser, creating a circular loop from the same input.The results are compelling and the farmers using NovFeeds biofertilisers report a 30% increase in crop yields. In 2024, the technology increased protein yield from fermentation by 40%. Today, NovFeed processes more than 10,000 tonnes of organic waste annually, serves over 2,500 farmers and operates across 20 regions in Tanzania, with expansion into neighbouring countries underway. What stands out to me, as I continue mapping food systems across the continent, is how NovFeed approached the problem. They identified three failures within the same system: waste, expensive feed and depleted soil, then built one circular process to address all three. In 2023, NovFeed won the $1 million Grand Prize in the Milken Motsepe Prize in AgriTech for its innovation. The recognition is significant, because ultimately, the strength of a food systems innovation is measured by the value it creates for the people within the system. 🔗 Explore the full circular economy map in the comments. L’irrigazione diventa davvero intelligente quando smette di seguire il calendario e comincia a seguire il campo. Un sistema tradizionale distribuisce acqua secondo tempi prestabiliti; un sistema guidato dai dati misura invece le condizioni reali delle diverse aree coltivate e interviene soltanto dove e quando necessario. La ricerca dell’Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro mostra come sensori connessi, modelli decisionali e attuatori possano trasformare questa logica in un processo operativo: l’umidità viene rilevata lungo le linee di distribuzione, i valori vengono confrontati con soglie definite per le colture e il sistema decide quali settori irrigare, integrando anche modelli previsionali e i vincoli dell’impianto. Un’app mobile e un digital twin permettono inoltre all’agricoltore di controllare sensori, consumi e decisioni in tempo reale, mantenendo la supervisione umana sull’automazione. Nelle sperimentazioni condotte in serre con coltivazioni in terreno e fuori suolo, il sistema ha consentito un risparmio d’acqua del 30% rispetto a un impianto tradizionale. La multiplication des évènements climatiques dont les causes sont potentiellement en lien avec des activités humaines doit amener à une prise de conscience globale de préservation des écosystèmes. Dans ce contexte, le projet RECARMAT pour REduction de l’impact CARbone des MATériaux et des procédés est focalisé sur une problématique de diminution de la consommation énergétique et de dépendance aux matières pétrosourcées des procédés céramiques. Le CTTC: Centre de Transfert de Technologies Ceramiques focalise ses travaux à la fois sur l’utilisation d’auxiliaires organiques biosourcés et sur l’étude du procédé d’extraction supercritique pour le déliantage des pièces avant frittage. Cette technique pourrait permettre une diminution drastique de la température et des temps de traitement. L’idée est de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre d’une part et la consommation énergétique de l’étape de déliantage d’autre part. La combinaison de l’efficience énergétique et la réduction de la consommation de matières pétrosourcées dans le projet RECARMAT laisse donc envisager de diminuer l’impact environnemental des procédés céramiques. Le CTTC remercie Europe en Nouvelle-Aquitaine pour son soutien financier. The increasing frequency of climate-related events (whose causes may be linked to human activities) must lead to a global awareness of the need to preserve ecosystems. In this context, the RECARMAT project (aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of materials and processes) focuses on the challenge of reducing energy consumption and dependence on petroleum-based materials in ceramic processes. The CTTC is concentrating its efforts on both the use of bio-based organic additives and the study of the supercritical extraction process for debinding parts prior to sintering. This technique could lead to a drastic reduction in both processing temperature and processing time. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the one hand and energy consumption during the debinding stage on the other. The combination of energy efficiency and reduced consumption of petroleum-based materials in the RECARMAT project thus holds the potential to lower the environmental impact of ceramic processes.
