🌟 Central Rift Innovation Week (CRIW) 2026 – A Celebration of Innovation, Collaboration and Impact What an inspiring three days at Central Rift Innovation Week (CRIW) 2026, held from 15–17 September 2026 at Kabarak University. Kabarak University CRIW 2026 brought together innovators, students, researchers, entrepreneurs, industry players, government agencies, investors and development partners to showcase innovative solutions, exchange knowledge, build networks and explore opportunities for collaboration and commercialization. From digital technologies, artificial intelligence, agritech and health innovations to sustainable solutions and entrepreneurship, the week demonstrated the creativity and determination of young innovators working to solve real-world challenges. A major highlight was the opportunity for innovators to showcase and pitch their solutions, receive feedback from judges and experts, engage potential partners, and strengthen their pathways toward prototype development, intellectual property protection, market validation and commercialization. 👏 Special appreciation goes to: Kabarak University Management for the continued support of innovation and entrepreneurship. 🌱 Protected Cultivation & Hydroponics Series | Day 15 💧 Drainage & Leaching: Where Does Excess Water Go? In protected cultivation, irrigation is not just about how much water we apply — it is also about what happens to the excess. 🌱 Good drainage helps maintain the balance between: 💧 Water availability 💨 Oxygen availability 🧪 Salt concentration around the roots In fertigation systems, poor drainage can contribute to salt accumulation in the root zone, potentially increasing EC and making water uptake more difficult. 🔄 Leaching helps move soluble salts downward with water passing through the growing medium. However, excessive leaching can also cause water and nutrient losses. 🔗 The bigger picture: Irrigation → Drainage → Water + Oxygen balance → Salt movement → Root function → Plant growth 💡 My takeaway: Efficient irrigation is not simply about supplying more water.
