India, with its strong agricultural foundation and growing tech ecosystem, is perfectly positioned to lead this global transformation. As a Gen Z student, I believe it’s time we look at agriculture not as a traditional occupation, but as a career of innovation and impact. Excited to Share Our Recent Conference Papers from Dr. Athyna Cambouris’s Lab!! Our peer-reviewed conference papers published by Wageningen Academic Press (Brill) is now available online. These studies highlight innovative data-driven approaches in precision agriculture, integrating AI, remote sensing, and soil analytics for sustainable crop management. 1): AI-Enhanced Potato Yield Assessment Using Sentinel-2 Imaging Key Insight: This study applied AI and Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery to assess pre-harvest potato yields across four commercial fields in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Among three tested machine learning models, Random Forest achieved the best performance (RRMSE = 13.8%, RMAE = 11.3%). Results confirm the potential of integrating AI and satellite data for accurate yield assessment in digital agriculture. Link to paper: https://lnkd.in/eUeV-udv 2): In situ VIS-NIRS Probe Measurements for pH Management Key Insight: This research compared VIS-NIRS soil probe readings with traditional laboratory pH analyses in maize and potato fields across Quebec and New Brunswick, Canada. Significant differences between the two approaches affected lime recommendations, underscoring the need for site-specific calibration to enhance the reliability of on-farm VIS-NIRS applications. India’s fast-growing foodtech startup Fambo has raised INR 21.5 crore (approximately $2.4 million) in a Series A round led by AgriSure Fund, with participation from Ev2 Ventures. The company plans to channel most of the capital into expanding operations beyond North India into western and southern regions, while also initiating its first international export push after a successful pilot shipment to Nepal. Founded in 2022 by Akshay Tripathi and Sudarshan Satle, Fambo supplies fresh produce and semi-processed food products to the HoReCa sector (Hotels, Restaurants, and Cafes). The company currently serves over 1,000 restaurants and cloud kitchens across North and Central India, including major brands such as McDonald’s, Burger King, Burger Singh, California Burrito, Nomad Pizza, and Barbeque Nation. Fambo’s innovation lies in its AI-powered demand prediction system, which enables restaurants to manage inventory efficiently and reduce food waste. The company sources its produce from a 75-acre network of GAP-certified farms, assisting farmers in crop planning, traceability, and guaranteed purchase agreements. Its temperature-controlled logistics network ensures freshness for both chilled and frozen deliveries, optimized through AI-based route planning. The startup also operates a processing facility in Noida, where semi-processed ingredients are prepared and customized in collaboration with restaurant brands.
