Plot twist in Singapore’s food security plan: “30 by 30” is now “30/20 by 35”.
From:
“30 by 30” = producing 30% of Singapore’s nutritional needs locally by 2030
To:
✅ 30% by 2035 for protein
✅ 20% by 2035 for fibre
❌ Alternative proteins (plant-based, cultivated meat, and fermentation) are out of the short-term strategy.
Here’s the twist:
🥚 🐟 🍤 Protein means only eggs, fish, and crustaceans. So meats, dairy, and molluscs (e.g., clams, oysters, mussels, scallops, squid, and octopus) are apparently excluded.
🥬 🍅 🌱 🍄 Fibre means only leafy and fruited vegetables, bean sprouts, and mushrooms, specifically excluding roots (e.g., carrots) and bulbs (e.g., onions). Tubers (e.g., potatoes), legumes (e.g., beans), grains and cereals (e.g., barley), fruits (e.g., bananas), and aquatic plants (e.g., seaweed) are apparently excluded.
💬 Comment if I didn’t interpret this correctly!
