Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture: Building Resilient Systems for the Future
Ensuring food security is one of the most urgent global challenges of our time. Across the Middle East and beyond, innovation, technology, and sustainable agriculture are reshaping how we grow, distribute, and consume food. From AI-driven precision farming to climate-resilient crops and circular food systems, the region is taking meaningful steps toward a more secure and sustainable future.
As part of our #MEBASMSI series, which each month spotlights leaders advancing ESG and sustainability, the November edition focuses on Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture — exploring how policy, innovation, and collaboration can transform our food systems to meet both environmental and social goals.

Key Message from Mohamed:
“The Middle East’s fashion sector is experiencing rapid growth, with luxury and fast fashion driving economic expansion, yet sustainability is increasingly critical. Governments in the UAE and Saudi Arabia are leading initiatives like Vision 2030, sustainability-themed events, and eco-focused funding to support circular models, local production, and climate-resilient materials. Second-hand markets and startups, including The Luxury Closet and Thrift for Good, are reshaping consumer behavior, but need capital, mentorship, and enabling policies to scale.
Reducing food waste and improving supply chain efficiency relies on AI-driven demand forecasting, smart food-sharing applications, and innovative storage and transport solutions. Technology, from vertical farming to controlled-environment agriculture, helps balance sustainability with cost efficiency, while startups optimize production and distribution across the supply chain. In the Middle East, empowering small and medium producers through partnerships, supportive policies, and smart infrastructure strengthens food security, with innovations like hydroponics, desert farming, and AI-driven resource management, supported by public-private collaboration for sustainable and resilient agriculture.”
