As harvest windows get tighter and labour availability becomes increasingly unpredictable, vineyards are exploring new ways to keep quality high and operations efficient. At Saffron Grange Vineyard, the potential of robotics is already becoming clear. With intelligent automation and precision teleoperation, grape picking can be carried out faster, more consistently, and around the clock, helping vineyards capture perfect ripeness at the exact right moment. Nick Edwards, Director, explains: “We are very lucky to have many dedicated volunteers help come every year to harvest our grapes, but the ability to pick as quickly as possible is really important for us. Under the Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation ABLE (Agriculture-Based Livelihood Enhancement) Programme, farmers in Dhule district #Maharashtra were introduced to sericulture farming. Through scientific training, hands-on demonstrations and exposure to modern rearing practices, the programme equipped farmers with the technical knowledge and confidence needed to start cocoon cultivation effectively. With LHWRF support, Seven farmers successfully completed their first batch of silkworm rearing, collectively harvesting 420 kg of cocoons. The outstanding cocoon quality fetched an excellent market price.
