Homegrown Saudi agritech B2B marketplace Nabt app has successfully closed a USD 3.4 mn Seed Extension round, bringing its total funding to USD 5 mn (SAR 18.8 mn). The round was led by SHG Group, with participation from existing investor Merak Capital and angel investors. The funding agreement was finalized at the Environment, Water, and Agriculture Ministry’s Sunbola program event, underscoring its strategic importance. Founded in 2022 by Abdullah Alotaibi, Nabt connects farmers directly with commercial buyers through a hybrid model combining physical logistics and digital trading. Its Riyadh warehouse hub handles sorting, grading, packaging, and cold-chain operations. Meanwhile, its digital platforms — Nabt Online Auction for large-scale trading and Nabt Intel for real-time pricing and demand insights — support efficient, data-driven transactions. The new capital will be used to significantly expand its fulfillment network beyond Riyadh into major Saudi cities, enhance its fresh-produce portfolio, and improve market access for farmers across the Kingdom.

Moisture-Granule “Fertilisers”: The Newest Trick Targeting Farmers Lately I’m seeing products that melt when you blow on the granule — being pushed as “premium fertiliser.” Anyone who has worked even one season with real soils knows what that means: the granule is mostly fillers, not nutrition. When you break it down, the truth is uncomfortable: • These granules offer no meaningful nutrient density • They don’t support microbial recovery or soil structure • They speed up soil fatigue • And farmers end up paying fertiliser prices for something that barely qualifies as plant food In an environment where soil health is declining every year, this kind of product design isn’t innovation — it’s exploitation dressed as convenience. As someone building in agritech, I’ll say it bluntly: If a granule collapses with a breath, imagine what it does (or doesn’t do) in the field. Bad weather in Sri Lanka during the past couple of weeks will affect the entire food supply chain this December. Four years ago, when our research team was coming together to solve a problem, there were wildfires in Australia. So we wanted to enable Urban Dwellers to grow their own food 🥗 - without a Garden, - without Constant Monitoring and - without depending on Outdoor Conditions! We designed a PID-controlled modular greenhouse that stacks like honeycomb, fits any wall or corner, and maintains optimal temperature and humidity on autopilot. 🚀 Future of Farming Takes Flight in Vijayawada! 🌾 We had an inspiring and highly successful drone demonstration and training session today in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, focusing on Drone Raja's agricultural spraying drones! This initiative, supported by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Fourth Apple Technologies, is a crucial step towards modernizing agriculture and empowering our community, especially young women, with cutting-edge technology. Highlights from the Event: Hands-On Training: Participants, including students, received in-depth training on drone operations, maintenance, and the effective use of the remote controller for precision tasks like GPS mode switching and pump control (as seen in the diagrams). Live Demonstration: We showcased the Drone Raja agricultural spraying drone in action, demonstrating its capability for efficient and uniform pesticide/fertilizer application, significantly boosting farm productivity. Empowering the Next Generation: It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and engagement from the students, with young women taking the controls and gaining practical experience with both the large-scale spraying drone and consumer/survey models. Technology in Focus: The session highlighted the importance of drones like the Drone Raja model and other multi-rotor systems (including Mavic -style and small consumer drones) for various applications, from spraying to surveillance and mapping. A big thank you to the organizers and all the passionate attendees! 🚫 Why I Don’t Use Coconut Water in Plant Tissue Culture — And Why Consistency Matters More Than Convenience After years of experience in both research and large-scale commercial plant tissue culture, one principle has remained constant for me: Reproducibility is everything. Coconut water is often promoted as a “natural growth enhancer,” but here’s the truth many don’t discuss: 🌴 Its composition is never consistent. The biochemical profile of coconut water varies drastically depending on whether the nut is very tender, semi-mature, or fully mature. This means the actual concentration of growth-promoting compounds is unpredictable. 🔬 You can’t standardize what you can’t measure. Since we cannot accurately identify or quantify the ingredients each time, it becomes impossible to reproduce results with scientific precision. 🏭 Commercial production demands stability. In a commercial setup, inconsistency equals risk. Using a component whose composition fluctuates makes it impossible to guarantee uniform growth, quality, or scalability. That’s a risk I simply don’t take. ✨ My approach: I rely only on well-defined, measurable, and repeatable media components — ensuring that every batch behaves like the last, both in the lab and in production.
