Nvidia just bought Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. Here's why smallholder farmers should care. The AI quietly transforming African agriculture, crop disease detection from a phone photo, yield prediction from satellite imagery, credit scoring for farmers with no bank statements, mostly runs on open-source models. Models a small team can download, fine-tune on local crops and local data, and deploy without a Silicon Valley budget. Hugging Face was the front door to all of that. Now the world's biggest chipmaker owns it. Maybe nothing changes. Nvidia profits when more people build. But agriculture in emerging markets has learned this lesson before with seeds and fertilizer: when the inputs get consolidated, the smallest players pay the price. For those of us building AI for smallholder finance, the takeaway is clear: Fine-tune and own your models. A crop-yield model trained on Ethiopian teff or Kenyan maize is an asset no acquisition can take from you. The real moat was never the base model, it's the local data and the trust of the farmers behind it. The next decade of agricultural AI in Africa shouldn't depend on decisions made in a boardroom in Santa Clara. #AgriTech #AI #FinancialInclusion #Smallholders #Africa #AgriFinance

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐞, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 How One Acre Changed Everything 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕 2 As days passed in Vidisha, my routine settled into the fields. Early mornings between 6 and 8 am, walking alongside farmers, listening to their challenges, and sharing agri advisory designed by the Mahindra Krish-e Agronomy team led by head of agronomy at that time Dr Shavinder Sir. 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒓 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈. We received an advisory for paddy — to maintain proper plant-to-plant and row-to-row spacing using Mahindra Rice Transplanter’s mechanised transplanting. On paper, it sounded simple. On ground, it meant asking farmers to trust us with just one acre — fewer seedlings, wider spacing, and a machine they had never used before. I onboarded a few farmers on the Krish-e application and requested them to test the advisory on one acre. They agreed. We used the Rice Transplanter to ensure uniform spacing — something manual transplanting rarely achieves. A few weeks later, concerns surfaced. The fields looked less dense. Some farmers were worried. A few were upset. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: “𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘺𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥?” I stayed with them, connected them with our agronomy team, explained the science again, and asked them to give it time. And the fields responded. In the Krish-e technique plots: - Better aeration between plants - Sunlight reaching lower plant parts - Higher and stronger tiller count - Visibly healthier crop growth By the end of the season, results were clear: - Reduced seed cost - Labour savings through mechanisation - Lower chemical usage - Yield increase of 1–3 quintals per acre This wasn’t theory. It was measured, visible impact. That single acre became a turning point. Doubt turned into trust. And that trust reflected back in my journey. From day one, I had been documenting farmer interactions, field observations, and before-after results of Krish-e’s digital advisory. One such video reached senior leadership, including the that times Business Head of Krish-e, Mr. VIJAY sharma. After completing two agricultural seasons, I was promoted to Territory Manager. Over the next 2.2 years, across Madhya Pradesh and later Punjab, I scaled Krish-e’s digital advisory and mechanised solutions — impacting many more farmers through technology-led, customised farming practices. Yet, somewhere along the way, another thought began resurfacing. My background in technology. And whether my field experience and tech skills would ever meet. I didn’t know then — but the answer was already on its way. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 3 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧: How a conversation with the Business Head took me from the fields to Mahindra Group's Head Office as a Product Manager. #Mahindra #Krishe #Agritech #Farmers #RiceTransplanter #DigitalAdvisory #CareerJourney #Annadata #Agriadvisory #agritech #FaaS #krishefarmingservices

Proud of the team and the science behind this. Our focus at Glaia is on improving the efficiency of photosynthesis — the core engine of crop productivity — so growers can unlock more yield and consistency without changing how they farm. Fragaria Plus is an early example of how this approach translates into practical, scalable benefits for sustainable agriculture. #Photosynthesis #SustainableAgriculture #AgriTech

Ceres AgriStrategy Conference 2025 On 4th December 2025, farmers, agronomists, and industry leaders came together for a full day of insight, challenge, and practical discussion. The conference focused on helping farming businesses navigate change, build resilience, and seize emerging opportunities. With the lessons of the 2025 harvest still fresh, sessions explored crop strategy, environmental performance, agri-tech innovation, and business planning — all grounded in the realities of running farming enterprises today. Managing Partner Charles Ireland urged farmers to face change with confidence and realism. “Change is hard. There’s no denying there are challenges ahead for some sectors, particularly now that the BPS cushion has gone. But the future is in your hands.” Rather than trying to preserve outdated systems, he encouraged delegates to focus on what they can control — productivity, efficiency, cost management and strategic direction — noting that “the risk of standing still is now greater than the risk of making changes.” There was so much valuable insight and lots of audience questions. We’ve captured it all — including photos, key takeaways, and our reflections on the Slido questions we didn’t get to during the live sessions. 👉 Read the full recap: https://loom.ly/rBEq-L0 🎟️ Ceres AgriStrategy Conference 2026 is coming!
