My team got 2nd at the OpenAI x Lumin Hackathon by building a Fitbit for your farm called in <24 hours. Wai is software/hardware that monitors soil moisture and water level. It talks to a IOS and web app which turn the readings into insights for farmers. Everything in the demo ran live off the real hardware. Our latest research paper has been officially published on IEEE Xplore! Smallholder farms cover 86% of India’s cultivated land, yet small farmers lack affordable, hyper-local weather monitoring systems to guide planting and harvesting decisions. Commercial weather stations remain far out of reach budget-wise, while low-cost alternatives often suffer from rapid probe corrosion and false alarms. In our paper, "A Low-Cost IoT Meteorological Telemetry Node with Duty-Cycled Corrosion Mitigation and Compound-Rule Alerting for Smallholder Agriculture," we present a multi-parametric weather telemetry node designed for just ₹1,150 (~$13.80 USD). Key Technical Highlights: Corrosion Mitigation: Solved electrolytic probe corrosion using a 0.83% GPIO duty cycle, reducing probe mass loss by 97.7% over 30 days. Smart Alerting: Implemented compound-rule thresholding to eliminate false alarms during heavy dew and fog. Affordable Scale: Built specifically to bring field-scale weather data to smallholder agriculture. I had the privilege of presenting this work at the 2nd International Conference on Modern Sustainable Systems (CMSS 2026), organized by Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia) and RVS College of Engineering and Technology (India). A little late sharing this, but it’s a memory I’m proud of. In August, Sahil Kumar Singh and I secured Second Runner-Up in the Agriculture & Farming track at Hack in Motion 2026, organized by RICR. We received a prize of ₹30,000 for our project, Khetri. We had 72 hours to build a working solution to a real agricultural problem. Our idea was to bring crop selection, irrigation guidance, crop health, weather, and market information together to help farmers make everyday decisions. The Grand Finale took place on 15 August inside a moving Bhopal Metro. Presenting something we had built in that setting made the experience even more memorable. Working with Sahil, making decisions under a deadline, and explaining our work to the judges gave me a lot to take away from the event. It felt good to see our effort recognised. It’s been a week since Future Food-Tech 2026, and I’ve come away from it with a lot of energy. Partly because it’s always nice to finally put a real face to people you’ve been speaking to for years, and partly because of the completely new conversations that happen almost by accident. But mostly because there is just so much to do in Food and AgriTech. A lot of the topics we’ve been working on at Bright Green Partners kept resurfacing in conversation: - side-stream management and byproduct valorization - pretty much every type of fermentation - scouting new ingredients for products that are more functional and differentiated - circular agriculture, from inputs all the way downstream, which I’m particularly happy to see resurfacing - nutraceuticals, with more traditional F&B companies looking at the space as a diversification opportunity and realizing that many of their existing capabilities can actually be reapplied And now, through FoodTech Experts, we can bring our expert network into much more of this work too, either alongside the BGP team or independently. I LOVE seeing the impact these experts can have. Some of my favorite examples recently: - helping commercialize products fresh off the production line and shortening sales cycles that would normally take months, sometimes years - traveling to pretty remote locations to meet experts “at the end of the world” and test hypotheses before committing to a greenfield investment. Yes, we do missions like this too - using discovery calls to test assumptions across several planned launches and help prioritize which ones actually make sense. One thing is to build a digital twin. Another is to figure out which of those twins will actually work in real life There’s much more I could write about, but I’ll save some of it for another post. This week, the BGP team is meeting in a sunny location to recharge, reflect, and plan what comes next. L'industrie du plastique repose presque entièrement sur des dérivés du pétrole, une ressource fossile dont l'extraction et la transformation génèrent d'importantes émissions de gaz à effet de serre, sans compter que les plastiques produits mettent souvent plusieurs siècles à se dégrader dans la nature. Des chercheurs en biotechnologie ont modifié génétiquement une souche d'algue marine pour qu'elle produise naturellement, au cours de sa croissance, un biopolymère aux propriétés mécaniques proches du plastique conventionnel, tout en se cultivant simplement dans de l'eau de mer et de la lumière solaire, sans terres agricoles ni engrais. Une fois transformé en objets du quotidien, ce bioplastique se décompose intégralement en quelques mois dans un environnement marin, contrairement aux plastiques classiques qui persistent pendant des centaines d'années. Une première usine pilote produit déjà plusieurs tonnes de ce matériau par mois pour des emballages alimentaires.
