Day 3/30 AT THE TABLE FROM FARM TO BOARDROOM: REDEFINING WOMEN'S ROLE IN AGRICULTURE For a long time, women have always been in agriculture, but rarely at the table where decisions are made. We are the ones planting, harvesting, processing, cooking, nurturing. Yet when it’s time to talk policy, funding, scale, exports, innovation, and systems… our seats are suddenly empty. And no, it’s not because we don’t belong there. It’s because agriculture in Nigeria (and across Africa) was framed to women as labour, not leadership. From day one, we were shown the farm, not the boardroom. The soil, not the systems. The hustle, not the strategy. But here’s what I’ve learned as a woman building in agritech and sustainability: 👉🏽 You can run a large agricultural business without touching the soil every day. 👉🏽 You can lead food systems without carrying a hoe. 👉🏽 You can sit in meetings that move millions and still understand the farmer’s reality. Agriculture is not just about growing food. It’s about building systems and women are naturally wired for systems. Supply chains. Risk management. Sustainability. Community impact. Long-term thinking. These are not “soft skills.” These are boardroom skills. The future of agriculture will not be driven by who can farm the hardest, but by who can think, structure, innovate, and scale the smartest. And women belong right there. So this is a call, not just to women on farms, but to women in classrooms, offices, kitchens, labs, startups, and homes: Stop asking for permission to sit at the table. Build your seat. Pull other women up. And speak with authority, because you belong here. Agriculture is evolving. And women are not just part of the future, We're the future, we are leading it.
