Nvidia just bought Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. Here's why smallholder farmers should care. The AI quietly transforming African agriculture, crop disease detection from a phone photo, yield prediction from satellite imagery, credit scoring for farmers with no bank statements, mostly runs on open-source models. Models a small team can download, fine-tune on local crops and local data, and deploy without a Silicon Valley budget. Hugging Face was the front door to all of that. Now the world's biggest chipmaker owns it. Maybe nothing changes. Nvidia profits when more people build. But agriculture in emerging markets has learned this lesson before with seeds and fertilizer: when the inputs get consolidated, the smallest players pay the price. For those of us building AI for smallholder finance, the takeaway is clear: Fine-tune and own your models. A crop-yield model trained on Ethiopian teff or Kenyan maize is an asset no acquisition can take from you. The real moat was never the base model, it's the local data and the trust of the farmers behind it. The next decade of agricultural AI in Africa shouldn't depend on decisions made in a boardroom in Santa Clara. #AgriTech #AI #FinancialInclusion #Smallholders #Africa #AgriFinance

Proud moment for our team Dr. Vimal Baghel Mohit Agarwal. Along with my B.Tech students Deepanshu Deshwal Mukul Dabas Saloni Vishvkarma @Chirag Sharma Srishanth Gujja, from the IoT & Robotics specialization, we successfully tested a wireless soil sensor network on the premises of Bennett University. We deployed soil sensor nodes, each placed over 40 meters from the gateway, and validated real-time sensing of key soil health parameters like available macronutrients, pH, electrical conductivity, soil temperature and soil moisture. This work is part of a seed-grant-supported project and serves as a hands-on extension of the IoT Networks and Protocols core course. The students are currently in their 2nd Year and applied classroom concepts directly to a real deployment scenario, from networking to data acquisition and system testing. Watching theory turn into a working proof of concept is exactly why such projects matter. Grateful to Bennett University School of CSET Bennett University, India Dr. Raj Singh Dr Swati A. Day 4/30 At The Table LOVE IS NOT SOFT, IT’S STRATEGY: WHY RELATIONSHIPS ARE THE REAL CURRENCY IN AGRIBUSINESSES In this season of love, while timelines are filled with flowers and sweet words, let’s talk about a different kind of love, the kind that builds industries. Because in agribusiness, love is not soft. It’s strategy. No serious agricultural venture grows alone. Not the farmer. Not the processor. Not the exporter. Not the agritech founder. Behind every thriving agribusiness is a web of strategic relationships, suppliers who trust you, distributors who prioritize you, partners who open doors, mentors who guide you, investors who believe in you. Funding is relationship-based. Distribution is relationship-based. Policy access is relationship-based. Market expansion is relationship-based. We like to talk about capital as money. But the real currency in this industry? Connection. And for women especially, this matters. We must move from building brands in isolation to building alliances with intention. From competing for visibility to collaborating for scale. From “I can do it alone” to “Who is at my table?” Because the right relationship can: Cut your learning curve in half Open international markets Protect you from costly mistakes Position you for rooms you didn’t even know existed. At the highest levels of agritech and food systems, conversations are not just about products, they’re about partnerships. If we want to scale African agriculture globally, we must treat relationships as assets. We must nurture them. Invest in them. Protect them. This is not about networking for noise. It’s about building strategic trust. So in this season of love, ask yourself: Who is at your table? And whose table are you preparing to sit at? Happy Valentine’s Day in arrears, Fam ❤️ Tomorrow, we go deeper. #Agritech #WomenInAgriculture #YouthLeadership #FounderLife #Sustainability #FutureLeaders #GirlsInSTEM #BuildingInPublic

I’m proud to share a milestone that is close to my heart. Recently, I had the opportunity to present my project “HAIL NET – AI-Powered Hailstorm Protection for Indian Farmers” during the Pitch It Up competition organized by the Entrepreneurship Cell at Graphic Era Hill University. Coming from a farming background, this idea is not just a project for me — it’s a purpose. The goal is to use AI and technology to predict hailstorms and help farmers protect their crops, reducing losses and bringing real impact where it matters most. This experience helped me grow in many ways: • Strengthened my public speaking and presentation skills • Learned how to convert a technical idea into a practical solution • Gained exposure to entrepreneurship and problem-driven innovation • Built confidence to present technology for social impact Grateful for the opportunity, the learning, and the encouragement. This is just the beginning. I aim to keep building solutions that combine AI, innovation, and real-world impact. #Entrepreneurship #AIForGood #StudentInnovator #PitchCompetition #Agritech #MachineLearning #FutureEngineers #LearningByDoing
