A few weeks ago, I led a short, focused engagement from the United Kingdom to Nigeria to support the evaluation and potential adoption of advanced agricultural drone technology for TY Holdings Farms, part of the broader agricultural interests associated with T.Y. Danjuma.
The objective was clear:
move beyond conversations and validate performance in the field.
On a cassava farm in Taraba State, I coordinated and led a live field
demonstration in collaboration with Femi Adekoya and his team at Integrated Aerial Precision, showcasing the operational capabilities of DJI’s agricultural drone systems to farm management and key stakeholders.
This was not a marketing demo. It was a data-driven field trial.
Key insights from the demonstration:
- 0.92 hectares sprayed in 4 minutes 24 seconds using autonomous liquid application
- Even, consistent coverage with zero manual flight corrections
- 0.23 ha/min coverage rate, demonstrating clear efficiency gains over manual methods
- Granular fertilizer application (NPK 20:10:10) completed across 0.91 hectares, with precise flow-rate control and minimal overlap
- Autonomous mission resumption after battery change—no loss of accuracy, no rework
- All flight parameters (speed, altitude, flow rate, coverage) logged in real time
The response from agronomists, farm staff, and local stakeholders was immediate and telling: reduced labor dependency, improved operational timing, and stronger control over input application.
Based on this evaluation, we are currently in the process of facilitating the acquisition of:
- Two high-capacity DJI Agras T100 agricultural drones for spraying, spreading, and scale operations
- A DJI Mavic Multispectral drone to enable geospatial crop imagery, early stress detection, and data-backed agronomic decisions
Importantly, this engagement goes far beyond equipment.
In parallel, I am designing and building an Intelligent Agribusiness Management Dashboard—a centralized platform intended to unify:
- Drone operations and flight logs
- Multispectral crop intelligence
- Farm activity records
- IoT devices and future automation layers
The vision is to give large-scale farms a single source of truth... where operations, data, and decision-making converge.
I continue to consult closely with stakeholders, guiding both the technical adoption and the strategic integration of these systems into day-to-day farm management. The focus is sustainability, scalability, and long-term operational intelligence... not quick wins.
This is how agricultural transformation actually happens:
rigorous field validation, grounded data, and systems designed to grow with the farm.
