Nvidia just bought Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. Here's why smallholder farmers should care. The AI quietly transforming African agriculture, crop disease detection from a phone photo, yield prediction from satellite imagery, credit scoring for farmers with no bank statements, mostly runs on open-source models. Models a small team can download, fine-tune on local crops and local data, and deploy without a Silicon Valley budget. Hugging Face was the front door to all of that. Now the world's biggest chipmaker owns it. Maybe nothing changes. Nvidia profits when more people build. But agriculture in emerging markets has learned this lesson before with seeds and fertilizer: when the inputs get consolidated, the smallest players pay the price. For those of us building AI for smallholder finance, the takeaway is clear: Fine-tune and own your models. A crop-yield model trained on Ethiopian teff or Kenyan maize is an asset no acquisition can take from you. The real moat was never the base model, it's the local data and the trust of the farmers behind it. The next decade of agricultural AI in Africa shouldn't depend on decisions made in a boardroom in Santa Clara. #AgriTech #AI #FinancialInclusion #Smallholders #Africa #AgriFinance

Combating Malaria & Dengue: Bridging Ancient Wisdom with AI-Powered Science I am proud to share details of a revolutionary multi-disciplinary effort in rural Pakistan. Go Hoopo is officially collaborating with Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) on a pioneering research initiative: "Neaz Bo for Life." Mosquito-borne diseases like Malaria and Dengue continue to devastate communities. This project aims to validate a low-cost, sustainable tool—Ocimum basilicum (the locally grown Niaz Bo basil plant)—for its scientific insecticidal properties. Our mission is to create a healthier future, protecting both human health and crucial livestock productivity. What makes this project unique? The integration of technology: To measure impact, we are moving beyond traditional methods and using AI-powered insect tracking tools powered by OpenCV and Google Vision. By quantifying data accurately, we can effectively demonstrate basil’s potential as a natural, scalable repellent. We are also providing unique opportunities for student leadership, utilizing CNV Ambassadors and Carbon Awareness Tokens (CATs). #SustainableInnovation #MosquitoControl #RuralDevelopment #PublicHealth #OpenCV #ComputerVision #AgriTech #SindhAgricultureUniversity #GoHoopo

This major agricultural event is a global showcase for innovation and solutions shaping the future of agriculture. On this occasion, three young Ivorian innovators, winners of the 2025 hackathon organized during the Salon International de l’Agriculture et des Ressources Animales (SARA) in Côte d’Ivoire, had the opportunity to represent the country at this prestigious international event. 🇨🇮 Three Ivorian talents, three innovative solutions: 🔹 Boris Ghislain Kouacou, an agronomy engineer trained at the Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny, is the founder of the startup AGRICLIM PREDICT. His solution helps farmers anticipate and better manage climate conditions, supporting them from planting to harvest. 🔹 Nany Tapé, a passionate innovator, is the creator of WAMI (Water Analyse and Monitoring Intelligent). It is a fish-shaped robot capable of analyzing water quality in fish farming ponds. Connected to a mobile application, it helps fish farmers monitor water conditions and improve production. 🔹 Sosthène Kouamé, a student and entrepreneur, is the founder of the startup AGROSUB, a platform that connects agricultural producers with partners to facilitate the financing and development of agricultural projects. Our presence in Paris had several objectives: ✔ present our innovative solutions ✔ meet international partners ✔ strengthen the visibility of Ivorian agricultural innovation ✔ participate in the hackathon organized as part of the Salon International de l’Agriculture. This experience confirms one thing: Ivorian youth have the talent and ambition to transform agriculture through technology and innovation. 🚀 The journey continues! 📰 Source: Le Média Citoyen – “SIA 2026: They impressed us” https://lnkd.in/eVr7rdJr #Agriculture #Innovation #AgriTech #Startup #CotedIvoire #SIA2026 #SARA #Entrepreneurship
