From Curiosity to NutriSensX – My Journey in Electrochemical Sensor Innovation.
Innovation rarely begins in a sophisticated laboratory. Sometimes, it begins with curiosity, persistence, and a simple breadboard.
My journey started at IIT Bombay as a PhD scholar with a simple question: Can we make a rapid soil testing sensor that can help farmers quickly understand the health of their soil?
The first step was developing a soil pH sensor for agricultural applications. It was a challenging process—countless experiments, repeated failures, and continuous learning. But when the first working prototype successfully measured soil pH, it became the turning point of my journey.
Encouraged by this success, I began developing a dedicated electronic measurement board to support the sensor system. In the early days, everything existed only on a breadboard—wires, components, and long hours of testing.
After completing my PhD, I joined SoilSens, where I made a conscious decision to dedicate myself fully to transforming this research into a commercial-grade agricultural sensing system. The focus shifted from just making something work in the lab to making something reliable, scalable, and useful for real farmers in real fields.
The journey demanded relentless effort—sensor chemistry optimization, electronics design, field testing, calibration, ruggedization, and system integration. Step by step, what once existed as a breadboard prototype evolved into a complete agricultural sensing device.
Today, that device is known as NutriSensX.
Seeing NutriSensX evolve from a research idea into a real product used for agricultural applications has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career.
A particularly proud moment came when NutriSensX appeared on Shark Tank India Season 5, bringing the vision of soil intelligence and precision agriculture to a national stage.
But for me, this is not the final destination.
Our mission is simple: NutriSensX should reach every farmer in India. Farmers deserve access to reliable soil data so that they can make informed decisions about nutrients, fertilizers, and crop management.
This journey has been powered by persistence, science, and a deep belief that technology can transform agriculture.
And this is just the beginning.
I am truly grateful to the SoilSens team members for their support throughout this journey.
