La tecnologia però esiste già: - I satelliti mappano lo stress idrico delle colture, campo per campo, prima che il danno sia visibile. - I sensori nel terreno misurano in tempo reale l'acqua di cui la pianta ha davvero bisogno. - L'irrigazione intelligente distribuisce acqua solo dove serve, invece di irrigare "a calendario". - Le TEA aprono la strada a varietà più resilienti agli stress climatici, siccità compresa: in Italia la sperimentazione in campo è già partita su riso, vite e pomodoro. L'acqua è una risorsa di sistema: ogni anello della filiera deve fare la sua parte, da chi coltiva a chi scrive le regole. 🌱 From a final-year project idea to a working prototype — and now, a patent application. I'm happy to finally share a project that became a big part of my final year: 'IoT and GSM Based Smart Irrigation System with Multiple Protections' The idea started with a question: Can we make irrigation smarter while also protecting the motor that powers it? Traditional irrigation often required manual supervision, while agricultural motors can face problems like phase failure, overcurrent, voltage fluctuations, dry running and overheating. So, rather than building a system that simply turns a pump ON and OFF, we wanted to bring automation, remote monitoring and motor protection together. Our prototype is built around an STM32F401CCU6 microcontroller and a SIM7672S GSM module, with sensors for: 🌱 Soil moisture 💧 Water level 🌡️ Motor temperature ⚡ Three-phase voltage 🔌 Motor current The system uses these readings to make irrigation decisions and respond to unsafe conditions. One part I particularly enjoyed was the GSM-based remote control. During testing, we were able to send commands like START, STOP and STATUS through SMS, while the system could also send alerts for phase failure, overcurrent and dry run. Getting everything to work together wasn't as easy as it looked on paper. 😅 This project gave us hands-on experience with embedded systems, sensor interfacing, GSM communication, motor control, protection circuits, hardware integration and testing — and, more importantly, taught us what it takes to turn an idea into a working system. After all the development, testing and documentation, I'm especially happy to share that our patent application has been acknowledged. 📝 I'm thankful to my project faculty guide Vivekanand Shere and my teammates Chinmay Patil, Ritesh Gulve who stood along throughout the process. Looking back, it's the discussions, mistakes and small improvements that I'll remember just as much as the final prototype. 🇧🇷🇨🇳 One week in China, 40 Brazilian agribusiness leaders, and lots of constructive conversations. We’ve just wrapped up a week-long business program in China for the Brazilian Agribusiness Delegation. A big thank you to Adriano Maluf Amui, Emanuel Ribeiro Junior, World AgriFood Innovation (WAFI) Conference, HICOOL, and everyone who welcomed us, shared their insights, and helped make this journey possible. 🙌 🏯 In Beijing, we combined China’s history and culture with meaningful business context — from the Forbidden City and Great Wall to exchanges with World AgriFood Innovation (WAFI) Conference. Conversations brought Chinese and Brazilian perspectives together around agricultural technology, digital agriculture, sustainability, and opportunities for long-term cooperation. 🚗 In Shanghai and the surrounding region, the focus shifted to education, industry, and innovation. The group visited New York University Shanghai, Audi, iRIC, the Sino-German Industrial Zone in Taicang, VECTOR AGR, and Baidu Apollo — exploring everything from China’s economy and advanced manufacturing to agritech and autonomous driving. 🤝 What made this tour particularly interesting was the mix of perspectives. We brought together private companies, international firms, educational institutions, and local government — four different parts of the ecosystem that don’t always sit at the same table. For us, that mix is an important part of discovering the real China — creating space to ask questions, exchange perspectives, experience the culture, and build real relationships. It was a busy week, but an extremely meaningful one. Je n’ai pas pour habitude de poster sur des sujets en particulier mais aujourd’hui c’est pour mettre en avant quelque chose d'important. Dans le cadre de mon alternance chez U TECH, la DSI de la Coopérative U, je m’occupe de plusieurs projets en lien avec le volet “local et engagé”. J’ai eu la chance d’échanger avec Patrice Marchi,  associé du Super U Labastide-Saint-Pierre dans le Tarn-et-Garonne, dans le cadre de la préparation de la semaine du développement durable 2026. 🍀 Une sacrée rencontre ! 🤝 Patrice a relevé un défi de taille : installer une serre en aquaponie directement accolée à son magasin. Une première dans la région (et aussi pour moi) ! Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, l'aquaponie permet de cultiver des plantes grâce à l'eau fertilisée par les déjections de poisson d’eau douce (ici des truites). Résultat ? Des produits ultra-locaux, savoureux et avec une économie d'eau drastique. Cela réduit également le coût et les émissions vis à vis des transports (quelques pas avec des chaussures adaptés évidemment) Au-delà de l'innovation technique, c'est une vision forte du commerce de demain que j'ai découverte. Patrice souhaite prouver que l’agriculture et la distribution peuvent, et doivent, être intimement liées pour créer un modèle économique stable, durable et surtout duplicable partout et de tout temps! Ce qui m'a le plus marqué, c'est l'impact humain. En réduisant la pénibilité du travail agricole, ce modèle offre une nouvelle voie aux jeunes générations. What if a smartphone camera could tell a tomato aggregator more about quality—and eventually give a financier better visibility into the stock being financed? That is no longer a distant idea. In March 2026, CGIAR/IFPRI reported work in Nigeria on an AI image-analysis system for the tomato value chain. The pilot, based on data collected in Jos, is designed to evaluate tomato quality and quantify post-harvest losses from images. The researchers also see potential for the approach to scale to other crops. This interests me from an agricultural-finance perspective because one persistent challenge in financing perishables is visibility. A lender may know the amount financed, but what is happening to the produce between harvest, aggregation and sale? Digital quality assessment could eventually strengthen that picture. Imagine combining verified production data with AI-assisted grading, timestamped inventory records, market prices and off-take information. That could help aggregators identify deterioration earlier, processors procure more consistently and financiers understand the quality and movement of financed commodities more clearly. The technology will not replace good agronomy, cold chains, experienced quality inspectors or sound credit judgement. But it can make previously invisible risks more measurable. And that is where AgriTech becomes especially valuable to finance. The most useful agricultural technology may not simply help us grow more—it may help us understand risk better.
