Nvidia just bought Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. Here's why smallholder farmers should care. The AI quietly transforming African agriculture, crop disease detection from a phone photo, yield prediction from satellite imagery, credit scoring for farmers with no bank statements, mostly runs on open-source models. Models a small team can download, fine-tune on local crops and local data, and deploy without a Silicon Valley budget. Hugging Face was the front door to all of that. Now the world's biggest chipmaker owns it. Maybe nothing changes. Nvidia profits when more people build. But agriculture in emerging markets has learned this lesson before with seeds and fertilizer: when the inputs get consolidated, the smallest players pay the price. For those of us building AI for smallholder finance, the takeaway is clear: Fine-tune and own your models. A crop-yield model trained on Ethiopian teff or Kenyan maize is an asset no acquisition can take from you. The real moat was never the base model, it's the local data and the trust of the farmers behind it. The next decade of agricultural AI in Africa shouldn't depend on decisions made in a boardroom in Santa Clara. #AgriTech #AI #FinancialInclusion #Smallholders #Africa #AgriFinance

🚨 The Global Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (MAPs) MAPs sector from Extraction to Regeneration. Demand for natural wellness and botanical ingredients is exploding. But behind the scenes, the supply chain is fracturing: wild habitats are vanishing, climate change is unpredictably altering plant chemistry, and the indigenous stewards and farmers at the root of this bio-economy are still seeing pennies on the dollar. Business as usual is no longer an option. If we don't radically rethink how we cultivate, process, and value MAPs, we will literally harvest this industry into extinction. A critical blueprint to transition the MAPs sector from extraction to regeneration. Here are the 3 non-negotiable moves we must make right now:  1. TECHNOLOGY: Stop guessing, start predicting. We must deploy AI-driven multi-omics and "Digital Twins" for precision agriculture. We need to predict phytochemical yields based on micro-climates, not just hope for the best.  2. INNOVATION: Save the wild, scale the molecules. For threatened species, we must pivot to cellular agriculture and synthetic biology. Grow the active ingredients in bioreactors, and let the wild ecosystems heal. Combine this with next-gen green extraction to eliminate toxic solvents. 3. ECONOMICS: Price in the truth, pay the stewards. Implement True Cost Accounting to expose the hidden ecological debts of MAP production. Use smart contracts to operationalize the Nagoya Protocol, ensuring indigenous communities automatically get their fair share of the profits. The seeds of a regenerative, multi-billion-dollar bio-economy are in our hands, but the window to act is rapidly closing. 👇 Read the full critical blueprint in the article below. 💬 Which of these three pillars (Tech, Innovation, or Economics) do you think is the most urgent bottleneck in the MAPs sector today?

High-value crops such as fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers, and plantation crops require precise nutrient management to achieve superior yield, quality, and market value. Fertilizers play a vital role by supplying essential nutrients like nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium, magnesium, sulfur, and micronutrients that support healthy plant growth, flowering, fruit development, and improved shelf life. Modern farming increasingly relies on water-soluble fertilizers, specialty fertilizers, controlled-release fertilizers, and fertigation systems to deliver nutrients efficiently while minimizing losses. Balanced fertilization enhances crop size, color, taste, and nutritional quality, enabling farmers to meet domestic and export market standards. The integration of soil testing, precision agriculture, AI-based nutrient recommendations, and sensor-driven irrigation further improves fertilizer-use efficiency, reduces production costs, and promotes sustainable farming. As consumer demand for premium-quality produce continues to rise, adopting advanced fertilizer technologies will be essential for maximizing profitability and ensuring long-term soil health. .#GLG #Guidepoint #AlphaSights #ThirdBridge #ColemanResearch #Capvision #Atheneum #NewtonX #Dialectica #proSapient #Tegus #Maven #DeepBench #Arbolus #SilverlightResearch #InexOne #Catalant #Zintro #ClarityFM #ExpertConnect #ExpertFile #AdvisoryCloud #PrimaryInsight #RidgetopResearch #Beroe #Aranca #AcuityKnowledgePartners #Evalueserve #SGAnalytics #MarketsandMarkets #FrostSullivan #GrandViewResearch #MordorIntelligence #FortuneBusinessInsights #IMARCGroup #ResearchAndMarkets #AlliedMarketResearch #GlobalData #Technavio #IDC #Gartner #Forrester #EverestGroup #LEKConsulting #OliverWyman #StrategyAnd #SimonKucher #Kearney #RolandBerger #ArthurDLittle #McKinsey #BCG #Bain #Deloitte #PwC #EY #KPMG#GLG #Guidepoint #AlphaSights #ThirdBridge #ColemanResearch #Capvision #Atheneum #NewtonX #Dialectica #proSapient #Tegus #Maven #DeepBench #Arbolus #SilverlightResearch #InexOne #Catalant #Zintro #ClarityFM #ExpertConnect #ExpertFile #AdvisoryCloud #PrimaryInsight #RidgetopResearch #Beroe #Aranca #AcuityKnowledgePartners #Evalueserve #SGAnalytics #MarketsandMarkets #FrostSullivan #GrandViewResearch #MordorIntelligence #FortuneBusinessInsights #IMARCGroup #ResearchAndMarkets #AlliedMarketResearch #GlobalData #Technavio #IDC #Gartner #Forrester #EverestGroup #LEKConsulting #OliverWyman #StrategyAnd #SimonKucher #Kearney #RolandBerger #ArthurDLittle #McKinsey #BCG #Bain #Deloitte #PwC #EY #KPMG#Agri #AgriBusiness #Agribusiness #AgTech #AgriTech #Farming #Farmers #Hydroponics #HydroponicFarming #VerticalFarming #ControlledEnvironmentAgriculture #PrecisionAgriculture #DigitalAgriculture #SmartFarming #RegenerativeAgriculture #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateSmartAgriculture #CropNutrition #PlantNutrition #Fertilizers #SpecialtyFertilizers #Biofertilizers #Bio

India's agritech market is heading to $28 billion by 2030. 🌾 That's not a distant projection anymore. It's already happening. AI-led agritech is growing at a 44% CAGR nearly double that of the broader agritech market scaling from $900 million in 2025 to $5.6 billion by 2030. But here's what's most interesting about where the money is going. Market linkage is emerging as the largest agritech value pool with post-harvest infrastructure, logistics, and buyer access expected to contribute nearly 45% of agritech value by 2030. Not seeds. Not drones. Not crop advisories. The market. The transaction. The moment a farmer sells what they've grown. That's where nearly half the value of India's entire agritech opportunity lies. And yet it remains the least transparent, least data-driven, and most exploitable part of the agricultural value chain. Agritech is moving from scattered pilots to system-level infrastructure, less about digitising farming, and more about rebuilding agriculture as an integrated economic system. At Richsoil that's exactly what we're building, starting with the most critical transaction in agriculture. The one where a farmer's entire season gets priced. 💚 Source: Inc42 & StarAgri Indian Agritech Market Landscape Report, July 2026 #AgriTech #AIinAgriculture #FarmersFirst #Richsoil #SupplyChain #FoodTech

🚀 CinnamonVision: Automated Grading & Quality Estimation of Ceylon Cinnamon Quills 🌿 I'm excited to share one of the projects completed as part of the Image Processing and Computer Vision module at the University of Ruhuna. This project gave our team the opportunity to apply computer vision, image processing, feature engineering, and machine learning techniques to solve a real-world problem in Sri Lanka's cinnamon industry. 🌱 The Problem Ceylon cinnamon is mainly graded through manual inspection, which can be subjective, time-consuming, and inconsistent. This may affect grading accuracy and fairness for farmers and exporters. Many existing systems rely solely on deep learning models that provide only the final predicted class with limited insight into why a decision was made. 💡 Our Solution – CinnamonVision Our approach focuses on explainable Computer Vision by measuring the physical quality characteristics defined in Sri Lankan cinnamon grading standards. 🔍 Our System Pipeline ✔ Image Acquisition & Preprocessing ✔ Image Segmentation (Otsu Thresholding & Canny Edge Detection) ✔ Geometric Feature Extraction ✔ HSV Color Analysis ✔ Texture Analysis using GLCM & LBP ✔ Feature Engineering & Normalization ✔ Machine Learning Classification (SVM & KNN) ✔ Performance Evaluation using Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1-Score & Cross Validation Unlike many end-to-end classification models, our system extracts measurable quality features before classification, making the grading process more transparent and explainable. 🛠 Technologies Used Python • OpenCV • Scikit-learn • NumPy • Pandas• Computer Vision • Image Processing • Feature Engineering • Machine Learning 📂 GitHub : https://lnkd.in/g3wv9fP7 📂 Dataset: https://lnkd.in/gBEn37B4 👨‍💻 Team Members Uresha Rasanjali Sachini Disanayaka Kaveesha Wijegurusinghe #ComputerVision #ImageProcessing #MachineLearning #OpenCV #Python #FeatureEngineering #ArtificialIntelligence #UniversityOfRuhuna #ComputerEngineering #Research #AgriTech #CeylonCinnamon
