Nvidia just bought Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. Here's why smallholder farmers should care. The AI quietly transforming African agriculture, crop disease detection from a phone photo, yield prediction from satellite imagery, credit scoring for farmers with no bank statements, mostly runs on open-source models. Models a small team can download, fine-tune on local crops and local data, and deploy without a Silicon Valley budget. Hugging Face was the front door to all of that. Now the world's biggest chipmaker owns it. Maybe nothing changes. Nvidia profits when more people build. But agriculture in emerging markets has learned this lesson before with seeds and fertilizer: when the inputs get consolidated, the smallest players pay the price. For those of us building AI for smallholder finance, the takeaway is clear: Fine-tune and own your models. A crop-yield model trained on Ethiopian teff or Kenyan maize is an asset no acquisition can take from you. The real moat was never the base model, it's the local data and the trust of the farmers behind it. The next decade of agricultural AI in Africa shouldn't depend on decisions made in a boardroom in Santa Clara. #AgriTech #AI #FinancialInclusion #Smallholders #Africa #AgriFinance

A year and a half ago, I started with almost nothing — just an idea and a lot of curiosity about India's fresh produce market. I tried farming myself. Then I tried B2C. Then B2C outlets. Every attempt taught me something, but none of them solved the real problem. Here's what I finally saw: hostels, small restaurants, and local vegatable sellers have no one supporting them professionally when it comes to fresh produce. No reliable vendor. No standardized quality. No fair pricing. Just chaos and middlemen eating the margins on both sides — farmer and buyer. So we built Kuragayalaabbai — India's Digital Fresh Produce Supply Chain. We connect farmers directly to businesses — hotels, restaurants, hostels, supermarkets, hospitals, institutions — through collection centers, quality grading, standardized packing, smart warehousing, and reliable logistics. No middlemen. Just fair prices for farmers and dependable freshness for businesses. In the next 10 days, we launch the app. It's been a journey of real ups and downs. But today, seeing the confidence from our early customers and the acceptance in the market, I'm more certain than ever — this is worth building. We're not just supplying vegetables. We're building the supply chain India's businesses and farmers deserve. #AgriTech #SupplyChain #StartupJourney #IndiaStartups #Kuragayalaabbai

Saudi Arabia’s agri-food sector is becoming a strategic investment platform for food security, water efficiency, and climate-resilient production. The 2026 outlook shows that the Kingdom’s priority is no longer production volume alone, but system efficiency: water productivity, supply-chain resilience, local value addition, and technology-enabled resource optimization. With 2026/27 cereal import requirements estimated at about 15 million tonnes, wheat, maize, and barley remain critical commodities constrained by arid climate, limited renewable water, and groundwater-management policies. This creates investment potential in grain procurement, strategic storage, milling, feed formulation, port logistics, cold-chain systems, and commodity-risk management. At the same time, high-value and water-efficient subsectors are gaining momentum: controlled-environment agriculture, hydroponics, smart greenhouses, vertical farming, edible-oil processing, coffee, honey, olive oil, aquaculture, and agri-tech. Key insight: Saudi Arabia’s strongest opportunity is not universal domestic production, but selective investment where production is biophysically feasible, commercially competitive, water-efficient, and aligned with national food-security goals. For investors, the opportunity extends across the full agri-food value chain: inputs, protected cultivation, precision irrigation, processing, packaging, logistics, retail distribution, and export-oriented niche products. Saudi Arabia’s food-security transformation is moving agriculture toward integrated, data-driven, resource-efficient, and commercially scalable food systems. #SaudiArabia #FoodSecurity #AgriFood #Agribusiness #AgriTech #ControlledEnvironmentAgriculture #Hydroponics #VerticalFarming #PrecisionAgriculture #WaterEfficiency #FoodSystems #FoodProcessing #ColdChain #SupplyChain #SaudiInvestment #Sustainability

A Call to Support Ethiopian Hot Pepper Farmers 🌶️🇪🇹 I came across this photo on Facebook where a beautiful, healthy hot pepper farm was being advertised for sale. It immediately reminded me of the incredible potential of Ethiopian agriculture and, at the same time, the struggles many of our farmers continue to experience. Many farmers, especially in areas like Bure, work tirelessly on their farms but are not connected to social media platforms or digital marketplaces. Some do not even have smartphones. Because of this gap, farmers often struggle to find reliable buyers, get fair prices, and access important agricultural information at the right time. This is where organizations like Lersha can play a transformative role. I kindly call upon Lersha and other agricultural innovators to explore ways of building stronger connections between farmers and markets—through simple mobile solutions, local agricultural agents, cooperatives, or other systems that farmers can easily access. There is also another urgent challenge that deserves attention: the growing threat of hot pepper wilt disease. In many areas around Bure, farmers see their pepper fields looking healthy and promising, only to watch them wilt within weeks or months. After investing their time, money, and hope, many are left with little or no harvest. We need stronger support in research, early disease detection, farmer training, resistant seed varieties, and practical solutions that farmers can apply in the field. Our farmers are the backbone of our food system. They deserve better access to markets, technology, knowledge, and innovations that protect their hard work. Let us work together to ensure that the promise of Ethiopian agriculture becomes a reality for the people who cultivate it. 🌱 #EthiopianAgriculture #HotPepper #Farmers #Bure #Lersha #FoodSecurity #AgriTech #RuralDevelopment #SupportFarmers #lersha.com

🌞 Exploring a New Idea: AI-Powered Smart Solar Panel System for Agriculture I am currently working on a project concept that aims to make solar energy systems smarter, safer, and more secure—particularly for agricultural and remote-area applications. The proposed system combines Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), GPS tracking, environmental sensors, and mobile-based remote control into a single integrated platform. 🔹 Real-Time GPS Tracking: To monitor the location of solar equipment and help reduce the risk of theft, with backup battery support for nighttime tracking. 🔹 Safer Maintenance: A controlled electrical isolation mechanism to improve safety during solar panel cleaning and maintenance. 🔹 Weather Monitoring & Protection: Sensors to monitor wind and environmental conditions, with alerts and a motorized frame designed to move the panels into a safer position during potentially dangerous weather. 🔹 Mobile App Control: Real-time monitoring, alerts, location tracking, and remote control of connected systems. 🔹 Smart Agricultural Integration: Integration with solar-powered tube wells, water pumps, irrigation systems, and other farm applications. 🔹 AI-Based Decision Support: AI can analyze sensor data, identify abnormal conditions, support automated responses, and improve system efficiency. The goal is to develop a smart, secure, weather-responsive, and agriculture-focused solar energy system that can be especially useful in remote and rural areas. This is currently a project concept, and I look forward to exploring its technical feasibility, prototype development, and potential real-world applications. I would be glad to hear feedback and suggestions from professionals working in AI, IoT, renewable energy, embedded systems, and smart agriculture. #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #IoT #SolarEnergy #SmartAgriculture #AgriTech #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #EmbeddedSystems #SmartFarming #Technology

Just submitted our project to the AMD Agentic AI Hackathon (Act II) with my team "Ninja Trinity 🥷" This summer break, my teammates Muhammad Hammad & Muhammad Asim and I participated in an online hackathon organized by AMD and lablab.ai. Out of the tracks offered, we chose the Unicorn track to build a SaaS app called KisanNama, a Pakistani agricultural companion app that helps local farmers who may not be comfortable with technology interact with our app in Urdu or English, through text or speech, and get insights on whether to sow a certain crop this season. It analyzes historical crop area trends, market prices, and risk, then summarizes an expert level, easy to understand recommendation in both Urdu and English through a 4 agent AI pipeline (Data, Risk, Market, Strategy). Regarding my contribution I managed the LLM level hosting on GPU cloud instances. The hackathon organizers provided $50 in Fireworks AI credits and $100 in AMD Developer Cloud credits to work with. We tested across both platforms and ultimately went with self hosting on AMD Developer Cloud, since Google was also a partner in this hackathon and recommended using their latest Gemma model for the Unicorn track, so we went with Gemma 4 31B IT. We self hosted this as our main reasoning LLM on an AMD Instinct MI300X GPU, which handled a 31B parameter model with excellent performance. I used vLLM to expose the self hosted model as an OpenAI compatible API, rather than relying on a managed provider's preset API keys, which gave me hands on, real world experience with LLM hosting, GPU deployment, and serving optimization. I also made a short documentary on this project, showing how crucial this kind of solution is for an agricultural country like Pakistan. You can view it here: https://lnkd.in/dvNv3qvh A special thanks to my seniors Muhammad Hammad & Muhammad Asim for the idea and building the frontend, backend, and the CrewAI orchestration layer, the brain connecting all the agents behind our submission. #AMDDeveloperCloud #AgenticAI #GoogleGemma #PrecisionAgriculture #SmartFarming #PakistanAgriculture #DigitalPakistan #FoodSecurityPakistan #AMDHackathon #AgenticAI #ArtificialIntelligence #CrewAI #Gemma #GoogleGemma #AMDInstinct #MI300X #SelfHosted #vLLM #OpenSourceAI #AgriTech #Pakistan #AgricultureTechnology #GenerativeAI #LLM #MachineLearning #Hackathon #TechForGood #SocialImpact #AIforGood #UrduTech #StartupIndia #SaaS #CloudComputing #DeveloperCommunit
