    Nvidia just bought Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. Here's why smallholder farmers should care. The AI quietly transforming African agriculture, crop disease detection from a phone photo, yield prediction from satellite imagery, credit scoring for farmers with no bank statements, mostly runs on open-source models. Models a small team can download, fine-tune on local crops and local data, and deploy without a Silicon Valley budget. Hugging Face was the front door to all of that. Now the world's biggest chipmaker owns it. Maybe nothing changes. Nvidia profits when more people build. But agriculture in emerging markets has learned this lesson before with seeds and fertilizer: when the inputs get consolidated, the smallest players pay the price. For those of us building AI for smallholder finance, the takeaway is clear: Fine-tune and own your models. A crop-yield model trained on Ethiopian teff or Kenyan maize is an asset no acquisition can take from you. The real moat was never the base model, it's the local data and the trust of the farmers behind it.     [GRAPHIQUE 1] L’été 2026 est, de loin, le + chaud jamais observé en France, devançant 2003 de 0,8°C. Seulement 5 jours sous les normales, contre 86 au-dessus. Il laisse derrière lui une agriculture en lambeaux et des écosystèmes à l’agonie. Le froid durable sous les normes n'existe clairement plus depuis 5 ans en France. Avec +3.8°C en juin, +3.7°C en juillet et +3.3°C en août, jamais la France n'avait enchainé de telles anomalies. Et la chaleur fera son reto ur dès le début du mois de septembre, de façon durable, notamment dans le sud de la France… L’été météorologique s’achève, mais nous sommes loin d’être tirés d’affaire. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [GRAPHIQUE 2, CARTE 3 et CARTE 4] En termes d’intensité, la sécheresse de 2026 (courbe noir du graphique) est clairement la plus intense jamais observée en France à l’échelle nationale. À l’échelle régionale, le constat est tout aussi exceptionnel : du Poitou jusqu’à l’Alsace, une vaste partie du pays connaît la sécheresse la plus intense jamais enregistrée (rouge sur la carte). Le retour des pluies ces dix derniers jours a permis de limiter un peu la casse. Mais le répit pourrait être de courte durée : avec le retour de la chaleur début septembre, la sécheresse pourrait de nouveau atteindre des niveaux records pour cette période de l’année (sous 2022 et 1976). En terme de sévérité (intensité * durée), on ne peut pas encore se prononcer, la sécheresse 2026 étant encore loin d'être terminée.

    Je pense que l’on peut désormais affirmer que la France traverse la plus grandes catastrophe agricole nationale depuis 1945. Sans aide publique, 30 000 à 35 000 exploitations pourraient se retrouver en situation de faillite, soit près de 10 % des exploitations agricoles françaises. C’est monstrueux. Le constat devient donc difficile à éviter : notre modèle agricole n’est pas suffisamment préparé au changement climatique qui arrive. C’est aussi le résultat d’un échec politique collectif : les gouvernements successifs n’ont pas suffisamment pris la mesure de l’ampleur des bouleversements que le changement climatique impose déjà, et imposera demain, à notre agriculture. Voici 3 propositions nationales pour adapter notre agriculture au changement climatique.

After a long break back again... 🌱 Smart Agriculture Monitoring System | Mini Project on LPC2129 (ARM7):- Excited to share my embedded systems mini project — a Smart Agriculture Monitoring System built around the LPC2129 ARM7 microcontroller, aimed at helping farmers make data-driven decisions for better crop productivity. 🔧 What it does: :-)Continuously monitors soil moisture levels using a digital soil moisture sensor and automatically controls a DC motor pump (via L293D driver) to irrigate only when needed :-) Uses an IR sensor to detect intrusions/objects in the field and alerts the farmer instantly :-) Sends real-time SMS alerts to the farmer's phone through a GSM module (UART + AT commands) — no manual field checks required :-) Displays live status on a 16x2 LCD for on-site monitoring 🛠️ Tech stack: LPC2129 (ARM7) • UART Communication Protocol • GSM Module • Soil Moisture Sensor • IR Sensor • DC Motor • 16x2 LCD 🎯 Objective: To enable precision agriculture through low-cost embedded monitoring — reducing water wastage, protecting crops from intrusions, and keeping farmers informed remotely, even when they're away from the field. 🌱🧪🚜 «No se puede construir la paz con estómagos vacíos». — John Boyd Orr, médico, biólogo y primer director general de la FAO.  «A la naturaleza, para dominarla, hay que obedecerla». — Francis Bacon, filósofo. ¿Puede una aplicación foliar sustituir la fertilización aplicada al suelo? En la mayoría de los sistemas agrícolas, no. Pero reducir el debate a un simple “suelo contra hoja” también sería técnicamente incorrecto. La fertilización de fondo o de cobertera aporta al cultivo cantidades relativamente grandes de nutrientes a través del sistema radicular. Es la vía principal para sostener la demanda acumulada de macronutrientes durante el ciclo productivo. La fertilización foliar, por el contrario, trabaja con volúmenes más limitados y suele resultar especialmente útil para corregir deficiencias concretas, aportar determinados micronutrientes o responder durante fases críticas del cultivo. La hoja puede absorber nutrientes, pero no es una raíz aérea. La cutícula, los estomas, la composición de la solución, la especie vegetal, el estado fisiológico, la humedad, la temperatura y el tiempo de permanencia de la gota condicionan la entrada y posterior movilidad del nutriente. Por eso, dos aplicaciones aparentemente idénticas pueden producir respuestas agronómicas muy diferentes. La ventaja de la vía foliar es su rapidez potencial. Cuando un nutriente penetra en el tejido, puede incorporarse antes a determinados procesos metabólicos que mediante una corrección convencional del suelo. Esto puede ser valioso cuando la raíz está limitada por sequía, frío, compactación, pH desfavorable o baja disponibilidad del elemento. Sin embargo, rapidez no equivale a capacidad total de alimentación. Pretender suministrar mediante las hojas toda la demanda de nitrógeno, fósforo, potasio o azufre puede provocar problemas de concentración, escorchado, cobertura insuficiente y baja eficiencia económica. La superficie foliar admite una cantidad limitada de solución y la absorción no es completa ni uniforme. Por eso, la evidencia técnica considera normalmente la nutrición foliar como un complemento, no como un sustituto general de la fertilización radicular.  Aquí aparece la verdadera agricultura de precisión: analizar antes de aplicar. El diseño correcto debería integrar análisis de suelo, diagnóstico foliar, objetivo de rendimiento, extracción prevista, fase fenológica, calidad del agua, condiciones meteorológicas y coste por unidad de nutriente realmente aprovechada. El análisis de tejido vegetal permite detectar desequilibrios y orientar mejor las decisiones, especialmente en cultivos de alto valor ⁉️ UNA PREGUNTA PARA TI, 🔥 ⚖️ 🔥 ¿Estamos recomendando fertilización foliar porque existe una necesidad agronómica demostrada o porque resulta más fácil comercializar una respuesta rápida que corregir problemas estructurales de suelo, raíces y manejo? #Agricultura #InnovaciónAgrícola #AgriculturaDePrecisión #Agritech #PlantNutrition #PrecisionAgriculture

​[Retour d'expérience – Stage volontaire] 💡🌱 ​Dans le cadre d'un stage volontaire axé sur la valorisation des déchets et les procédés de conversion de la biomasse, j'ai eu l'opportunité d'effectuer une visite technique approfondie au centre ITC d'Eskişehir, en Turquie (Eskişehir Entegre Katı Atık Bertaraf Tesisleri). ​Cette immersion m'a permis d'étudier de près l'ensemble de la chaîne de valorisation : ​Tri mécanique & optique : Fonctionnement des capteurs avancés et des systèmes automatisés pour une séparation haute précision des matériaux. ​Valorisation de la biomasse & cogénération : Méthanisation des résidus organiques pour la production de biogaz et sa conversion en énergie électrique et thermique. ​Boucle thermique & serres horticoles : Récupération de l'énergie thermique résiduelle des générateurs pour alimenter des serres à microclimat contrôlé, garantissant la chaleur nécessaire au développement et à la maturation des plantes. ​Une illustration parfaite d'économie circulaire où chaque composant est valorisé, et une excellente opportunité d'approfondir mes connaissances sur les technologies de la transition énergétique ! 🌍⚡
