#UFAZ Student Participates in a #Bootcamp Organized in Gusar
Huseyn Balayev, a student majoring in #Computer #Science at the French-Azerbaijani University - UFAZ, participated in a bootcamp organized in the #Gusar district within the framework of the “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Precision #Agriculture” project, organized by the Agrarian Innovation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Held on August 14-15, the bootcamp aimed to engage young people in the agrarian innovation and startup ecosystem, support the development of innovative solutions for the agricultural sector based on #artificial #intelligence and digital technologies, and facilitate their practical application.
As part of the program, participants representing various higher education institutions presented their #startup projects. Huseyn Balayev participated in the bootcamp with his project, “#OrchardGuard AI.” The AI-powered project initially focuses on the early identification of frost and hail risks and the assessment of potential damage in apple orchards in the Quba-Gusar region.
“OrchardGuard AI” is designed to analyze weather and farm-specific #data and provide advance alerts on frost and hail risks at the individual parcel level. In the event of damage, the project also enables #farmers to submit geotagged and timestamped photographs, which can then be analyzed using computer #vision technologies.
The system analyzes visible damage to fruit and trees and generates a preliminary structured report. This approach is aimed at supporting a faster and better-documented assessment process for agricultural #insurance claims.
The project applies artificial intelligence both to #risk prediction based on weather and terrain data and to the classification of agricultural damage using computer vision technologies. “OrchardGuard AI” is not intended to replace insurance experts but rather to help farmers respond to risks at an earlier stage and support improvements in the damage assessment process.
As part of the bootcamp, Huseyn Balayev also visited the “Amoris,” “METAK,” and “Ismikhanli” #farms during the organized information tours, where he became familiar with their production processes.
