

If Tour 1 from the IPPS-SR meeting was about system design in nursery production, Tour 2 on Wednesday was about 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬.
Knox Horticulture LLC: High-tech houses, on-site Ellepots, and plug trays pre-sleeved and boxed; shipping is built into growing. That’s downstream design: 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐲. Agri-Starts, Inc.: Propagation as choreography: stick → mist → space → repeat, with 𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞-𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 behind it. The constraint isn’t biology anymore; it’s flow, ergonomics, and repeatability. Great greenhouse crops come from 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬, and 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝, 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞. As a researcher and educator, this visit left me asking: 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒔𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒔, 𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎? 𝐖𝐚𝐫 𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞!
