Heifer International Africa
𝐏𝐀𝐘𝐆 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 - Heifer International, in partnership with Hello Tractor, is scaling an innovative Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) tractor financing model. The approach uses technology to deliver affordable, on-demand mechanization services to smallholder farmers across Africa, including #Uganda.
Recently, 10 new tractors were handed over to youth entrepreneurs, part of the Hello Tractor’s booking agents supported through Heifer’s Tractors for Africa initiative.
Since the project began in 2022 at Heifer International Uganda:
✅ 172 tractors are active on the Hello Tractor platform in Uganda
✅ 70,000 smallholder farmers have gained access to mechanization services
✅ 183,000 acres of farmland cultivated
✅ Nearly 1,000 jobs created for operators and booking agents
This tractor co-sharing model makes ownership possible for smallholder farmers, creates profits for tractor owners, and improves regional access. Research shows tractors can increase smallholder yields up to fivefold.
