On enchaîne.

Bridging the Gap Between Agronomy and Industrial Processing: Key Takeaways from the IITA PROSSIVA Farmers Field Day! Big news for the cassava value chain in Nigeria! Today, Green Hills Agricultural Products hosted a landmark Farmers Field Day in Ologbo Village Area, Edo State, in collaboration with the IITA Cassava PROSSIVA Project and Sahel Consulting. As a high-grade processing facility supplying the pharmaceutical and beverage industries, with a processing capacity of 55,000 litres of ethanol per day, raw material standards are non-negotiable: The factory requires a minimum of 18% starch content. During today's harvest of the Demand Creation Trials (DCT), the Managing Director, Suliman Ada, joined local farmers to inspect the harvest and validate the lab numbers firsthand. Here is how the 4 featured varieties stacked up on Starch Content vs. Fresh Root Yield: Starch Analysis Results (Lab Benchmark: ≥ 18%) GAME CHANGER: 23.6% TME419: 23.6% RENEWED HOPE: 19.1% BABA 70: 17.1% (Below Industrial Threshold) Fresh Root Yield Rankings (Tons per Hectare) Baba 70: 51.6 t/ha (Massive biomass, but falls short on industrial starch) Renewed Hope: 43.7 t/ha (The perfect balance of high yield and industrial quality) Game Changer: 26.3 t/ha (Exceptional starch density for premium processing) 4th TME419 (Check): 21.5 t/ha The Big Takeaway for Farmers & Out growers While Baba 70 delivered impressive tonnage, its 17.1% starch content means it misses the processing benchmark for industrial pharmaceutical and beverage applications. On the other hand: Game Changer and TME419 deliver maximum starch concentration (23.6%). Renewed Hope emerges as an all around powerhouse, offering high yields (43.7 t/ha) while comfortably exceeding our 18% starch benchmark. To meet the factory's daily feedstock requirement of 55,000 litres of ethanol per day, MD Suliman Ada strongly encourages farmers to scale up production of high starch varieties, particularly Game Changer and Renewed Hope, promising robust factory backed support for individual farmers and cooperative groups ready to join the out grower scheme. 🌾🔬 Unlocking Field Productivity: Dual Benefits of Sugarcane Tissue Culture Seedlings for Farmers & Factories 🚜🏭 Adopting micropropagated (tissue culture) sugarcane seedlings is transforming modern sugarcane agriculture. By replacing traditional vegetative setts with disease-free, high-purity seedlings, both cultivators and processing plants experience a quantum leap in yield, efficiency, and sugar recovery. Here is a breakdown of the key strategic advantages to sugar mill and partner farmers: 🧑‍🌾 Part 1: Tangible Benefits for Sugarcane Farmers 🧬 100% Genetic Purity & Uniformity: Ensures pure-to-type, high-yielding parentage across the entire crop, eliminating varietal mixtures in the field. 🛡️ Disease-Free Starting Material: Lab propagation eliminates seed-borne pathogens like Red Rot, Grassy Shoot Disease, Wilt, and Smut right from Day 1. 🌾 Vigorous Tillering Capacity: Generates 10 to 15 robust millable canes per stool (compared to 4–6 from traditional setts), drastically reducing required seed rates. 📈 Exceptional Tonnage Boost: Increases farm yield by 20% to 40%, delivering 50–70+ tons per acre depending on field management. 💰 Cost Savings on Seed Material: Lower transport weight and precise plant spacing (SSI / wide-row planting) reduce overall seed investment and planting labor. 🔄 Superior Ratoon Performance: Healthy root system architecture enables 3 to 4 profitable ratoon crops, reducing land prep costs for subsequent seasons. 🏭 Part 2: Strategic Advantages for the Sugar Factory 🍬 Higher Sugar Recovery Rates (Pol % Cane): Uniform maturity and disease-free, thick cane stalks yield higher sucrose content and purity juice, boosting factory extraction efficiency. 🚚 Consistent Cane Supply & Crush Scheduling: Uniform germination and growth cycles allow precise harvesting schedules, optimizing daily crushing capacity and reducing mill downtime. 📏 Higher Fiber Quality & Bagasse Generation: Sturdier cane stalks improve bagasse production for captive co-generation and bio-energy operations. 🧪 Rapid Multiplier for New Varieties: Enables factories to introduce and scale elite, high-sucrose cane varieties across thousands of acres in just 2–3 seasons instead of 6–8 years. 🤝 Enhanced Farmer Loyalty & Sustainability: Delivering high-yielding seedlings builds stronger ties with the farming community, securing sustainable long-term cane command areas. 👏 Integrating Tissue Culture technology bridges the gap between agricultural research and industrial productivity, driving profitability for both the farmer and the mill! 🏷️ Praveen Rathod Deekonda Praveen #SugarcaneTissueCulture #NSLSugars #CaneDevelopment #SustainableFarming #Agritech #SugarIndustry #YieldOptimization #CropScience #SugarcaneFarming #Micropropagation #SmartAgriculture #FactoryEfficiency #AgriculturalBiotechnology

🌱 Research Milestone: Sensors for Managing Water Resources in Agriculture – 16 Citations and Growing I am delighted to share that our research paper titled "Sensors for Managing Water Resources in Agriculture", published in the IOSR Journal of Electronics and Communication Engineering, has now received 16 citations, and the number continues to grow. 📄 Paper Link: https://lnkd.in/dkr-phNn (replace with the correct paper link if different) This publication holds a special place in my research journey because it marks one of my earliest contributions to solving a real-world societal problem through technology. The inspiration behind this work came from two remarkable mentors: Dr. N. V. Rao, Scientist 'G', DRDO, Hyderabad, my first research mentor, whose constant guidance encouraged me to pursue meaningful research. Mr. Sudhakar Rao Garu, an Agronomist from Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University, whose thought-provoking question profoundly influenced my thinking: "How much water does a crop require, and when exactly is it required?" This simple yet powerful question stayed with me and motivated me to explore the field of water resource management in agriculture. During 2012–2013, India witnessed severe drought conditions in several regions. Many farmers suffered heavy crop losses due to insufficient rainfall and the lack of efficient irrigation practices. Tragically, farmer distress and suicides became a major concern. Witnessing these challenges motivated me to explore how sensing technologies could contribute to more efficient water management and sustainable agriculture. With the encouragement of Dr. N. V. Rao Sir and valuable discussions with agronomists and domain experts, this research gradually evolved into the published paper. The paper presents a comprehensive overview of soil moisture sensors, environmental sensing technologies, irrigation monitoring techniques, and water management methodologies that support precision agriculture. It serves as an introductory reference for researchers and practitioners interested in sensor-based irrigation management and sustainable farming practices. I warmly invite researchers, academicians, students, and professionals working in: 🌾 Precision Agriculture 💧 Water Resource Management 🌱 Smart Irrigation Systems 🌍 Internet of Things (IoT) in Agriculture 📡 Agricultural Sensors 🤖 AI for Agriculture to read and cite this work if it is relevant to your research. I sincerely thank my mentors, collaborators, and the research community for their continuous encouragement and support. Every citation is a reminder that research can contribute, even in a small way, toward addressing important societal challenges. #Agriculture #PrecisionAgriculture #WaterManagement #SmartFarming #IoT #Sensors #Research #ComputerVision #ArtificialIntelligence #SustainableAgriculture #Irrigation #Agritech #ResearchImpact #Citations #AcademicResearch

Spider mites don’t need much time to become a major problem, but Spical-Plus is built to stay ahead of them. 🕷️🌱 Spical-Plus contains Neoseiulus californicus, a highly adaptable predatory mite that provides reliable control of spider mites across a wide range of crop conditions. Unlike more specialized predators, it tolerates lower prey densities, high temperatures, and can persist even when spider mite numbers are low, making it an excellent tool for both prevention and early intervention strategies. Its resilience in warmer and drier conditions allows it to perform consistently in greenhouse and protected cropping systems where spider mite pressure often builds unnoticed. For growers looking to strengthen their IPM program, Spical-Plus delivers sustained, preventative pressure on spider mite populations before they escalate. #SpicalPlus #SpiderMiteControl #NeoseiulusCalifornicus #BiologicalControl #IPM #IntegratedPestManagement #GreenhouseGrowing #CropProtection #BeneficialInsects #SustainableAgriculture #WorkingWithNature
