𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗿 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻!!🏆
Some hackathons give you a project, Some give an experience. And then there are a few that push you so far that you come out knowing more about what you are capable of. For me, this was one of them and also, this was a little special to me!
I recently participated in a 𝟯𝟲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 hackathon at Acropolis Institute of Technology and Research, Indore, with my team 𝑳𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒄𝑸𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒏⚡(cool name, no?): Vikas Kelwa, Palak Jain, Shivam Purohit.
There were 1,111 registrations from across India, with teams coming from different states. From those registrations, only 53 teams made it to the final round, and we were one of them.
Our solution went on to become the 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲🥇 winner in the AgriTech domain, and we finished 4th overall among 1,111 registrations. We also got support from GDG Indore in the form of credits. Honestly, seeing that result was surreal.
The hackathon started at 8 PM on 21st August and ended at 8 AM on 23rd August.
I had just finished my exams and right after that, I was involved in anchoring in my college's orientation program for freshers. And immediately after that came this hackathon.
So for those 36 hours, there was basically no sleep. Just building, debugging, eating whenever we could, and getting back to work. And somehow, I loved every bit of it.
🍀Our problem statement was to build a 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 for farmers that could monitor crop and soil conditions, provide weather insights, and alert farmers when something needed attention.
I was responsible for the complete hardware side, with Vikas helping me, while Palak and Shivam handled the software. I also worked on bringing both sides together, and trust me, this was no easy task.
You have to sit there, trace the connections, check the values, debug it, and figure it out.
One moment I’ll always remember was at 1 AM, when we got the idea to 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗟𝗠 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝗦𝗣𝟯𝟮 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲. (credit goes to Vikas)
I kept working on it, and by 6 AM, it was finally working. Seeing the camera actually analyze its surroundings made me genuinely happy.
That 1 AM idea became one of my favorite features of the project.
I wanted our system to be more than just a collection of sensors. I wanted it to be as 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗱 as we could possibly make it within those 36 hours. So we also integrated satellite and weather data. If the physical sensors failed, the system could still use external data to provide weather information and alerts, including upcoming weather conditions and cloud formations.
We trusted each other, divided responsibilities, helped wherever something was stuck, and kept moving. That coordination was probably one of the biggest reasons we made it as far as we did.
We didn't leave any stone unturned.
We gave it everything we had.
Onto next....!
