Building an AI Agriculture Assistant with INR 0 API Cost.. What if you could build a real AI application without paying for expensive AI APIs? That's exactly what I'm experimenting with through KrishiMitraAI - an AI assistant designed to help farmers with agricultural questions. And the most interesting part? The core AI stack runs locally on my laptop. No OpenAI API bill. No Claude API bill. No expensive cloud GPU. Instead, I'm using open-source models through Ollama. Our local AI stack • Qwen2.5-Coder 7B - AI coding/development assistant • Llama 3.2 - agricultural question answering • Nomic Embed Text - document embeddings • ChromaDB - local vector database • LangChain - AI/RAG pipeline • Python - backend • Streamlit - application interface • Tavily - optional trusted web search • Cline + VS Code - AI-assisted development The goal is to keep the core AI inference and knowledge retrieval local. Why RAG? Instead of asking the LLM to answer everything from its memory, we retrieve relevant agricultural information from our own knowledge base and provide that context to the model. What I'm learning AI development is becoming more accessible. You don't always need expensive APIs, a dedicated AI server, a huge team, or thousands of dollars to start. You can start with Python, open-source models, Ollama, LangChain, ChromaDB, VS Code, Cline and your own domain knowledge - then gradually turn an idea into a real AI product. From an idea -> working system Idea -> Project structure -> Local LLM -> Embeddings -> Vector database -> RAG -> Web search -> Vision -> Evaluation -> Agricultural AI Assistant And this is only the beginning. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #GenerativeAI #OpenSourceAI #Ollama #RAG #LangChain #Python #ChromaDB #Agriculture #AgriTech #FarmTech #AIEngineering #StudentDeveloper #BuildInPublic #KrishiMitraAI

AI won't replace the farmer. It'll replace the uncertainty he's farmed with for generations. From satellite data to AI-based monsoon forecasts reaching 3.88 crore farmers — India's agriculture is quietly entering its data era. But technology alone won't transform farming. Trust will. Read how AI is reshaping the way India farms 👇 Will AI become a genuine everyday farming partner or will agriculture always depend more on human experience than technology? #AgricultureIndia #AIinAgriculture #DigitalIndia #Agritech #FutureOfFarming

Yhteistyö — "collaboration." Last month me and Mateus Gomes had the pleasure of hosting part of the University of Helsinki delegation at our TOWING Co., Ltd. lab on the Nagoya University campus, as part of their visit to explore long-term research partnerships. Joni Kujansuu (Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research) and Kalle Toivonen (Innovation Department, Horizon EU) came to see what we do with biochar — and the conversation went exactly where I hoped it would. We ended up deep in the overlap between our two worlds: how engineered biochar reshapes the soil microbiome, and how greenhouse gas fluxes at the soil–atmosphere interface are actually measured. INAR has world-class continuous monitoring capability. We have a soil technology already deployed in the field. Put those together and you stop guessing about soil carbon and start measuring it. No agreements signed — just the honest, curious kind of conversation that good collaborations tend to start as. Watching for where it goes. Thank you to Nagoya University for the invitation, and to the Finnish team for making the trip. Kiitos! 📰 Full story from Nagoya University 👇 https://lnkd.in/gNFGefct #Biochar #SoilHealth #SoilMicrobiome #GreenhouseGas #JapanFinland #HorizonEurope #DeepTech #Agritech

“How can we prevent the next generation of Pink Bollworm from being established?” For more than a decade, we have used Bt cotton, insecticides, monitoring and different management practices. Yet Pink Bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella) remains one of the most destructive threats to cotton production. So the real question is: Are we controlling Pink Bollworm—or simply reacting to it after the damage has already happened? 🔴 Why is control still failing? 1️⃣ Resistance is increasing Continuous dependence on the same Bt traits has created strong selection pressure. Recent Pakistani research has found reduced effectiveness of existing Bt technologies against Pink Bollworm. 2️⃣ The larva hides inside the boll Once the larva penetrates the flower or boll, conventional foliar sprays have limited access. By the time visible damage appears, the pest may already be inside. 3️⃣ Late detection = late action Many fields start intensive scouting only after boll damage becomes visible. Effective management must begin with adult moth monitoring and early warning. 4️⃣ Off-season survival is ignored Leftover bolls, ratoon cotton and volunteer plants can act as reservoirs, allowing the pest to survive and return to the next crop. 5️⃣ Individual-field control is not enough If one farmer manages PBW but neighboring fields remain untreated, moths can continue moving across the cotton-growing ar 🚀 What should the ADVANCED approach look like? We need to move from: ❌ “Spray when damage appears” to: ✅ “Predict → Prevent → Monitor → Disrupt → Target → Eradicate.” 🔹 Pheromone-based surveillance 🔹 Mating disruption using pheromone dispensers 🔹 Area-wide pest management 🔹 Strict post-harvest field sanitation 🔹 Removal of ratoon/volunteer cotton 🔹 ETL-based interventions 🔹 Rotation of insecticide modes of action 🔹 New Bt traits with effective resistance management 🔹 Biological control and IPM 🔹 Digital/GIS-based hotspot mapping 🔹 Weather + crop-stage + pest-trap data for risk prediction 🌱 The future of Pink Bollworm management Pheromone traps + Mating Disruption + Resistant Varieties + Field Scouting + Digital Surveillance + Off-season Eradication 💡 Key Takeaway: If we want sustainable cotton production, we must stop asking: “Which pesticide will kill Pink Bollworm?” and start asking: “How can we prevent the next generation of Pink Bollworm from being established?” 🌿 Scout Early. Predict Risk. Disrupt the Pest. Protect the Boll. Protect Cotton. #PinkBollworm #Cotton #CottonPakistan #CottonFarming #CottonProduction #PestManagement #PestScouting #IntegratedPestManagement #IPM #MatingDisruption #PheromoneTraps #ResistanceManagement #CropProtection #SustainableAgriculture #PrecisionAgriculture #DigitalAgriculture #AgriTech #DroneAgriculture #Agronomy #FarmManagement #PakistanAgriculture #PCCC #PARC #FAO #CABI #BetterCotton #CottonConnect #Syngenta #BayerCropScience #Corteva #FMC #UPL #AgricultureJobs #AgriJobs #AgronomyJobs PepsiCo JTI @
