𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿? Karnataka is opening state departments to 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀, allowing founders to directly propose technology solutions for government problems. The approach is being positioned as “𝗴𝗼𝘃𝘁-𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁.” Instead of startups waiting for departments to discover them, founders can take their solutions directly to the people dealing with real-world challenges. Think: → 𝗔𝗜 → 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 → 𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 → 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 → 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 → 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 → 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 → 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 → 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 → 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 And this addresses a problem startups don't talk about enough: 𝗚𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿. A startup can have great technology, strong founders and funding. But without a serious customer willing to deploy the product, scaling becomes much harder. 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁. Sometimes, it can do something even more powerful: 𝗕𝘂𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁. A government department becoming an early customer can provide more than revenue. It can provide:  • 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.  • 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.  • 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.  • 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.  • 𝗔 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿. If this model works, the opportunity isn't just about helping startups. It's about making government itself a 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲. For founders building for India's biggest problems, that's a powerful shift: 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺. Quality is not a cost; it is an investment that builds trust." Session 9 of the PM-RKVY Agripreneurship Orientation Programme (AOP) focused on Export Quality, Standards & Certification — because for agri and food startups, a scalable product also has to meet the quality, safety, and traceability bar that global markets expect. Shri Darshan N M from The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) led the session, helping agripreneurs understand the compliance ecosystem behind successful agricultural exports. The discussion covered pesticide residue limits, contaminant and microbiological safety, traceability, authenticity, labelling, and adherence to importing-country standards. Startups were introduced to key licences and certifications — FSSAI, NPOP, HACCP, ISO 22000/FSSC 22000, GlobalG.A.P., and BRCGS — along with the role of accredited lab testing for pesticide residues, heavy metals, mycotoxins, nutritional analysis, and shelf-life studies. The core message: compliance shouldn't wait until export stage. It starts with regulatory understanding at the idea stage and builds toward international certification and traceability as the startup scales. The session closed with an engaging Q&A, where founders brought their specific product and market questions to the table. #PMRKVY #AOP #Agritech #APEDA #ExportQuality #Certification #SIIC #IITKanpur Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur | Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur (incubatoriitk) | Manindra Agrawal | Air Marshal Philip Thomas AVSM VM | Deepu Philip | Ashutosh Agnihotri | Piyush Mishra | Surbhi Awasthi | Neelakshi, Ph. 🌍🌾 Africa must embrace AI in agriculture. But it must not outsource its food security to it. Recent warnings from former frontier-AI researcher Jacob Coxon about the potential catastrophic risks of advanced AI got me thinking about African agriculture. AI could transform farming across Sub-Saharan Africa: predicting rainfall, detecting crop disease, optimising irrigation, improving access to credit, forecasting yields and strengthening supply chains. But there is a risk we discuss far less. The more agricultural decisions we delegate to AI, the greater the consequences if those systems fail, are compromised or eventually operate beyond meaningful human oversight. Imagine AI increasingly influencing crop selection, irrigation, autonomous machinery, agricultural finance, commodity markets, storage and food distribution. Individually, these are innovations. Connected together, they become infrastructure. And infrastructure creates dependency. For a smallholder farmer operating on narrow margins, one bad planting recommendation, rejected credit decision or disrupted supply chain could destroy an entire season’s income. Multiply that across millions of farmers and it becomes more than a technology problem. It becomes a food-security and economic-security problem. Africa therefore needs more than agricultural AI adoption. We need local AI capability, African agricultural datasets, cybersecurity, transparent systems, human override mechanisms and contingency plans for when technology fails. AI can transform African agriculture. The challenge is ensuring that, as it does, farmers and nations retain control of the systems on which their food security depends. #ArtificialIntelligence #AfricanAgriculture #AgriTech #FoodSecurity #SmallholderFarmers #ResponsibleAI #Africa

10 PM. An empty hallway. And a conversation I'll remember for a long time. That's when Thiru Singai G Ramachandran, Chairperson of Startup TN, sat down with a room of founders — and stayed well past when he needed to. I used that time to talk about two ideas that, on paper, have nothing to do with each other: → An AdTech platform that turns Tamil Nadu's public buses into a GPS-triggered digital ad network → An AgriTech system that reads satellite data to tell farmers exactly when their land needs water Different industries. Same obsession — finding the gaps nobody's looking at, and closing them with data. Here's what I didn't expect from the conversation: not applause, not validation — just a quiet confirmation that the hard questions I've been sitting with for months are the right ones to keep asking. Building at the intersection of hardware, data, and real infrastructure is slow. It's unglamorous most days. But rooms like this one are where you find out you're not building in the dark. I wouldn't be in that room at all without Dr Mythili Gnanamangai mam, whose guidance shapes almost every decision I make on these ventures, and the MARABANU team, who've backed me through all of it without asking for the spotlight. If a chairperson can give founders his time till 10 PM, the least we owe him is to build something worth that time. This is just the beginning. More soon. #StartupTN #AdTech #AgriTech #Entrepreneurship #TamilNadu #BuildInPublic #Startups #Inaiyam
