    La fin de la sécheresse (météorologique) a été marquée par le début de la saison des orages méditerranéens offrant un spectacle grandiose durant l'intégralité de la nuit passée. Quelques centaines de photos entre l'Hortus (ici à droite) et le Pic Saint Loup (ici sortant du nuage à gauche), dont de nombreux coups de foudre ramifiés !     On enchaîne. Il est maintenant très probable que nous allons vivre l'El-Nino le plus intense depuis le début de son observation sur Terre (et surement depuis des siècles). Les premiers effets se font sentir avec un décrochage total des températures mondiales. Le mois d'août 2026 pourrait être le mois d'août le plus chaud sur Terre depuis le début des mesures. Nous ne sommes qu'à 0.11°C du record absolu mondial de température et 0.01°C du record absolu de la surface des océans. La méditerranée enchaîne les records absolus de température avec une canicule marine qui dure depuis des semaines avec jusqu'à +3 à +6°C d'anomalie. Les derniers relevés montrent qu'avec une moyenne de 28.5°C, la surface de la mer Méditerranée vient de battre son record absolu de température. En d'autres termes, la mer Méditerranée n'a jamais été aussi chaude tous mois confondus. Ce n'est que le début. Nous sommes partis pour 1 an d'incroyables records à l'échelle planétaire.

🍎🤖 Building an AI-Based Fruit Grading & Sorting Prototype | e-Yantra One of the most exciting experiences of my year was participating in e-Yantra, an international-level robotics competition, as part of a team of four. With Agriculture as the theme, we worked on a problem that caught our attention: How can fruit grading and sorting be made more accessible, portable, and affordable? Our team proposed a portable, low-cost fruit grading and sorting system that combines computer vision, machine learning, and an automated sorting mechanism. 🔧 Our prototype included: • Raspberry Pi as the main processing unit • Camera module for fruit image acquisition • IR sensor for fruit/object detection • Conveyor belt system for fruit movement • Rotating platform for multiple-angle image capture • Image processing and an AI/ML-based grading model • Servo motor-based sorting mechanism • Separate bins for Grade A, B, and C fruits The overall workflow was: 🍎 Fruit Input → Detection → Image Capture → Image Processing → ML Classification → Grade Identification → Servo Control → Automated Sorting The Raspberry Pi acted as the central controller, processing the captured image and generating the grading decision. Based on the classification, control signals were sent to the servo-based mechanism to direct the fruit towards the appropriate sorting bin. Our journey through e-Yantra was also a major learning experience. As a team, we successfully cleared 3 evaluation sprints before being eliminated at the Pre-Regional Finals. Although we didn't make it to the regional finals, the competition gave us valuable hands-on experience in machine learning, computer vision, Raspberry Pi, embedded systems, mechanical prototyping, problem-solving, and team collaboration. Every new AI success story in agriculture is exciting—but this incident is a reminder that a wrong recommendation in farming is not just a software bug; it can wipe out a family’s livelihood. A reported case from China, where a farmer allegedly lost around 25 acres of sesame crop within 24 hours after following an AI-generated pesticide recommendation, should make every AI developer, agritech company, and policymaker pause. As someone who believes in the power of AI for agriculture, I also believe this: A farmer’s field is not a testing ground for poorly validated AI outputs. When an LLM recommends a pesticide, herbicide, fertilizer, or crop management practice, it is influencing decisions that directly affect food production, income, debt, and families. Even a ₹1 loss to a farmer matters, because that ₹1 represents hard work, risk, and hope. A large-scale mistake can destroy an entire season and years of trust. Technology developers have a responsibility that goes far beyond building impressive models. Agricultural LLMs must be trained on validated agronomic knowledge, tested across crops and regions, and designed to clearly communicate uncertainty. Recommendations that can affect crops should undergo rigorous scientific review before reaching farmers. Innovation without accountability is dangerous. AI should empower farmers—not mislead them. As professionals working in digital agriculture, we must ensure that every advisory shared with farmers is scientifically vetted, locally relevant, and reviewed by qualified experts before it reaches the field. Accuracy is not just a technical metric in agriculture; it is the difference between harvest and hardship.
