Africa's Business Heroes (ABH) has selected 20 entrepreneurs for its 2026 Semi-Final in Nairobi, Kenya, on 21–22 August. The entrepreneurs were chosen from an expanded Top 100 cohort drawn from more than 24,000 applications across all 54 African countries. Their businesses generated approximately US$85 million in combined revenue in 2025. The cohort represents 12 countries and 11 sectors, including agritech, healthcare, manufacturing, climate technology, financial services, education, energy and enterprise software. Eight of the 20 entrepreneurs are women. From persistent spores and root-derived strigolactone signals to molecular recognition, controlled root penetration, arbuscule formation, and extensive extraradical hyphae, AMF effectively extend the plant’s root system into the surrounding soil. Inside the root, the arbuscule acts as a nutrient-exchange interface, enabling carbon transfer from the plant while supporting the acquisition of phosphorus, nitrogen, sulfur, micronutrients and water by the plant. Outside the root, the extensive fungal network explores soil beyond the normal root depletion zone—making AMF powerful partners for nutrient acquisition, plant establishment, soil health and stress resilience. India’s Digital Public Infrastructure story has already transformed payments and retail through platforms such as UPI, Aadhaar and ONDC. The next frontier could be agriculture. With initiatives such as AgriStack, Bharat-VISTAAR, satellite intelligence, IoT sensors and ONDC-enabled market access, India is moving toward an interoperable digital ecosystem connecting farmers, data, technology, financial services and markets. What makes this particularly interesting is the emerging 4-layer Agri-DPI stack: 🔹 Identity & Registry — Farmer ID and digital land/crop records 🔹 Intelligence — Satellite data, GIS and AI-driven advisories 🔹 Ground Sensors — IoT-enabled soil, irrigation and micro-climate monitoring 🔹 Market Access — Digital networks connecting producers with buyers The opportunity goes far beyond digitizing agriculture. It is about making farming data-driven, predictive and connected—while creating an open platform for the next generation of agritech innovation. But there is one question we cannot ignore: As agricultural data becomes increasingly valuable, will India’s data privacy frameworks be strong enough to protect small farmers from exploitation by large agribusinesses?
