    On enchaîne. Il est maintenant très probable que nous allons vivre l'El-Nino le plus intense depuis le début de son observation sur Terre (et surement depuis des siècles). Les premiers effets se font sentir avec un décrochage total des températures mondiales. Le mois d'août 2026 pourrait être le mois d'août le plus chaud sur Terre depuis le début des mesures. Nous ne sommes qu'à 0.11°C du record absolu mondial de température et 0.01°C du record absolu de la surface des océans. La méditerranée enchaîne les records absolus de température avec une canicule marine qui dure depuis des semaines avec jusqu'à +3 à +6°C d'anomalie. Les derniers relevés montrent qu'avec une moyenne de 28.5°C, la surface de la mer Méditerranée vient de battre son record absolu de température. En d'autres termes, la mer Méditerranée n'a jamais été aussi chaude tous mois confondus. Ce n'est que le début. Nous sommes partis pour 1 an d'incroyables records à l'échelle planétaire.

From building under pressure to learning at full speed ⚡🌱 What started as a blank slate turned into an intense 8-hour journey of problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation. With a surprise problem statement on crop monitoring, we dived straight into action—no roadmap, just determination. Using Raspberry Pi, PyTorch, Roboflow, and multiple datasets, we engineered a system where each plant had its own trained model, while a classification model identified the crop itself. Five plants, multiple models, parallel workflows—every minute counted. From splitting tasks across systems to training models simultaneously on Colab and local machines, this wasn’t just about the outcome—it was about how fast we could adapt, collaborate, and execute. Proud of my team— Gouri Vast, Pramugdha Gupta, Aditi Manthalkar —for turning chaos into something meaningful. We may not have taken home the win, but we walked away with something more valuable: insights, feedback, and a stronger foundation to build something real. I was pleased to take part in a rich and rewarding experience in Emerging Technologies through Qassim University’s Summer Innovation Program. For me, the program represented a valuable opportunity to move from understanding a real-world problem to developing a data-driven technological solution. During the program, I had the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team to develop our innovative project, MERWA — a smart system designed to collect and analyze farm data and transform it into customized agricultural recommendations that support informed decision-making. MERWA is built around the collection and integration of various field and climate data, including soil moisture, soil characteristics, crop type, location, weather conditions, and water consumption. These data are then analyzed to build a more comprehensive understanding of the condition and needs of each individual farm. The core concept behind MERWA is that agricultural recommendations should not be generic or one-size-fits-all. Farm requirements vary depending on location, crop type, soil characteristics, climatic conditions, and actual recorded measurements. Therefore, MERWA aims to provide recommendations based on the specific data of each farm rather than relying on generalized recommendations. By building a continuously evolving database, the system aims to reduce water and resource waste, support plant health and quality, and improve the accuracy and efficiency of agricultural decision-making over time. What made this experience particularly valuable to me was that it went beyond developing the project itself. It gave me the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team and experience firsthand how Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Network Engineering, and Supply Chain Management can come together to address a real-world challenge and develop a more integrated solution. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. Jamal Alotaibi , and to the outstanding engineers Abdulmalek Aldossery and Kayan Algeffari , for their valuable support, guidance, and mentorship throughout the learning and project development stages. Their contribution played an important role in enriching this experience. I am also proud to have worked alongside my teammates — especially Fahad AlShalahi , the initiator of the idea — and grateful for everything we learned and built together throughout the program. The sea could have a bigger role in the future of Indian agriculture than we realise. Lately, I’ve been reading and thinking more about blue biotechnology, and one area that really caught my attention is seaweed-based biostimulants. We usually look at the ocean as a source of food, energy or natural resources. But there is another side to it that is still relatively unexplored in India — its potential to help us grow better crops. Seaweeds contain a fascinating mix of naturally occurring compounds and bioactive molecules. With the right science and extraction technologies, these can be developed into agricultural biostimulants that support plants under conditions like heat, drought and nutrient stress. And for a country like India, this is particularly interesting. Our agriculture is going to face increasing pressure over the coming decades — changing climate, declining soil quality, water constraints and the need to produce more with fewer resources. I believe this is where marine biology and agriculture can start meeting each other. The interesting part isn't simply putting seaweed on a field and calling it sustainable. The real opportunity is in the science behind it: Which species work best? Which compounds actually matter? How should they be extracted? How do we formulate them consistently? And, most importantly, do they work in real Indian fields? That last question is critical. India has a long coastline and an enormous diversity of marine life, but we are still at a relatively early stage when it comes to converting this biological wealth into scalable agricultural technologies. Perhaps the next chapter of Indian biotechnology will be about looking a little closer at what has always been around us, and finding possibilities we haven't fully imagined yet. Imagine turning something that grows in our oceans into a scientifically validated tool for improving the resilience of crops on our farms. That, to me, is where the idea of “blue biotechnology” becomes really exciting. The ocean may not just be part of the climate solution.
