đ A Major Milestone: External Defense Completed!
On 18 September 2026, I had the privilege of presenting and defending my final year research project during my External Defense at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
My research project, titled:
âDevelopment and Calibration of a Multiparameter Device for Real Time Monitoring of Soil and Climatic Variablesâ
focused on developing and calibrating an affordable device capable of monitoring key environmental variables, including soil moisture, soil temperature, air temperature, relative humidity, UV radiation, and solar radiation in real time.
The idea behind this research came from a simple but important problem: farmers and researchers need reliable environmental data to make better decisions, yet access to affordable, real time field monitoring systems can still be limited.
Important variables such as soil moisture, soil temperature, air temperature, relative humidity, UV radiation, and solar radiation influence crop growth, irrigation decisions, planting conditions, and responses to changing weather conditions. However, when these variables are not adequately monitored, agricultural decisions may rely heavily on assumptions or limited measurements.
To address this challenge, I developed and calibrated a multiparameter monitoring device capable of measuring these soil and climatic variables in real time.
From designing the system and integrating the sensors to conducting field measurements, calibration, data analysis, and finally defending the work before an external panel, the journey challenged me technically and personally.
