Had the opportunity to attend AgriCon–HortiConnect India 2026 at BIEC, Bengaluru, from October 1–3. The event was inaugurated by Shri D. K. Shivakumar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, along with Mr. Silvio Erkens, Minister for Food Security, Fisheries and Horticulture, Government of the Netherlands. As an IIBS student, attending this event gave me an opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience the agriculture and horticulture industry from a different perspective. I learned about emerging areas such as agri-tech, smart farming, protected cultivation, irrigation, mechanisation, post-harvest management, food processing and sustainable agriculture. More importantly, I understood how technology, management and innovation are coming together to shape the future of this sector. What I enjoyed most was seeing the practical side of concepts we learn as students and understanding how they are applied in the real world. This experience has broadened my perspective, increased my curiosity about the agriculture and horticulture sector, and reminded me that some of the best learning happens through real-world exposure. A valuable experience that I will carry forward in my journey as a student and future professional. #IIBS #AgriCon2026 #HortiConnect2026 #Agriculture #Horticulture #AgriTech #StudentExperience #LearningBeyondClassroom #Bengaluru

Same road. Same days. Different ending. 🍎🍑 A whole year of work can be lost on the road: long routes, long waits, and fruit that arrives with mold. So we asked one question: what if you could go back? Bio Shield is a plant-based powder you add to the water you already use to wash or spray your fruit. No new machines, no new line. It's built to help fresh fruit last longer on long routes. 🍎 Apples · 🍑 Peaches · 🟣 Plums: first. 🚚 Pilots with exporters, summer 2027. Exporter or packing house? 🚀 48 Hours. One Challenge. One Powerful Learning Experience. Had an incredible experience participating in VIDYAHACK 48, a 48-hour hackathon hosted by the AI Centre of Excellence, Vidya Academy of Science and Technology. Along with Team Emora, we built AgriSentinel X, an AI-powered agricultural platform focused on making the farming supply chain smarter, more transparent, and secure through AI-based crop quality assessment, a digital marketplace, smart-contract escrow, GPS tracking, and real-time supply-chain monitoring. 🌱🤖 The real highlight was the journey—brainstorming ideas, building under pressure, solving unexpected challenges, debugging at odd hours, and learning from every iteration. More than the project, this hackathon gave me the opportunity to collaborate closely with my friends, strengthen our teamwork, and turn an idea into a working solution in just 48 hours. 🤝🔥 Grateful to our mentors, organizers, judges, and especially my teammates for making this an unforgettable experience. 48 hours of coding, creativity, challenges, friendship, and innovation! ❤️ #VIDYAHACK48 #TeamEmora #AgriSentinelX #Hackathon #AI #AgriTech #Innovation #Teamwork #MachineLearning #SmartAgriculture #KeralaTech

New Learning Series: A New IT Research Topic Every Day by Raquel Cruz 🌱 Day 19 — Can AI See When a Plant Is in Trouble? A farmer looks at a leaf and notices something unusual: spots, discoloration or signs of damage. Could AI learn to detect similar visual patterns? This is one application of Computer Vision in Smart Agriculture. A simplified process might look like: Camera/Drone → Image → Computer Vision Model → Detection/Classification → Agricultural Decision 📸 First, the field becomes visual data. Images can come from: 🚁 Drones 📱 Smartphones 📷 Field cameras 🛰️ Satellites Once collected, these images become data that AI models can analyze. 🧠 Then Computer Vision looks for patterns. Models can be trained to support tasks such as: 🍃 Identifying signs associated with plant diseases 🐛 Detecting some pests or visible damage 🌿 Distinguishing crops from weeds 🍎 Identifying or counting fruits 📊 Monitoring crop conditions For example, imagine a model analyzing a leaf: Healthy → 7% Disease A → 89% Disease B → 4% The prediction does not automatically determine what action should be taken. Instead, it can become one source of information for a farmer or agricultural system. 🚜 From prediction to action When Computer Vision is integrated with other technologies, the workflow becomes even more interesting: Images → AI Analysis → Location → Alert → Human/Automated Action This can support precision agriculture, where decisions are based on conditions observed in specific parts of a field rather than treating the entire area identically. 🛠️ What technologies can make this possible? 🐍 Python 👁️ OpenCV 🧠 CNNs / Deep Learning 🎯 Object detection models such as YOLO 🚁 Drones and cameras 🛰️ Remote sensing 🗺️ GIS and geospatial data ☁️ Cloud or Edge Computing However, real-world performance can be affected by lighting, weather, camera quality, crop variety, growth stage and training data. 🔑 Key takeaway Computer Vision can transform agricultural images into information that helps people detect, classify and monitor conditions in the field. Image → Visual Patterns → AI Prediction → Agricultural Insight AI does not replace agricultural knowledge — it provides another tool for turning field data into useful information. 🔎 Next research topic: How Can AI Recognize Different Types of Waste? — CNNs, Computer Vision and Waste Classification #ArtificialIntelligence #SmartAgriculture #ComputerVision #MachineLearning #DeepLearning #PrecisionAgriculture #AgriTech #DataScience #AIResearch
