On enchaîne.

36 hours. One idea. Countless challenges. And finally… 🥇 FIRST PLACE! I’m extremely happy to share that our team secured 1st Place at Quantum Arena – 36 Hour Hackathon, organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, TKR College of Engineering & Technology, Hyderabad, held from 6th–8th August 2026. Representing Sona College of Technology, Salem, we spent 36 intense hours turning an idea into a working Edge-AI based Smart Polyhouse Management System, with a focus on making smart agriculture more accessible to MSME and small-scale farmers. 🌱 So, what did we build? An IoT + Edge-AI based Smart Polyhouse System capable of monitoring environmental conditions and making intelligent decisions for automation. Our prototype: 🌡️ Monitors temperature, humidity, light and soil moisture using ESP32 📡 Transfers sensor data through MQTT to a Raspberry Pi 🧠 Uses an Edge-AI/Decision Engine to analyze conditions 📊 Provides real-time monitoring through a Flask dashboard 💧 Enables automated irrigation and actuator control 🗄️ Stores sensor data using SQLite The idea behind it was simple: Make smart farming practical, affordable and accessible to farmers who may not have the resources for expensive industrial automation systems. But building it was anything but simple. There were definitely moments when things didn't work the way we wanted. But that's what made the final announcement of “1st Prize” even more meaningful. 🙏 A sincere thank you I’m grateful to Sona College of Technology, Salem, for providing us with the support and opportunity to participate and represent our institution. Special thanks to: Dr Senthilkumar S R R sir Principal, Sona College of Technology, Salem Dr. R.S.Sabeenian Sarcius sir Head of the Department, Department of ECE Vikram Natarajan sir Class Counsellor Your encouragement and support played an important role in helping us take this project from an idea to a winning prototype. A big thank you as well to TKR College of Engineering & Technology, Hyderabad, especially the Department of CSE, for organizing such an intense and challenging platform for innovation. Grateful to my team Tarun Srinivasan Periya Samy Jeshwin Sam J Dharun B This win belongs to all of us. Every debugging session, every hardware problem, every last-minute change and every small breakthrough was a team effort. I couldn't have asked for a better team to experience those 36 hours with. From an idea, to a prototype, to a 1st-place finish. 🥇 And this is only the beginning. We have a lot more to build, improve and take forward — especially towards creating technology that can make a real-world impact in agriculture. 🌱 Grateful. Proud. Hungry for what's next. 🚀 Thank you, Quantum Arena. ❤️ #Hackathon #QuantumArena #FirstPrize #Winner #EdgeAI #IoT #SmartFarming #Polyhouse #AgriTech #EmbeddedSystems #ESP32 #RaspberryPi #MQTT #AI #Innovation #Engineering #SonaCollegeOfTechnology #TKRCET

36 hours. One problem statement. Countless iterations. One unforgettable experience. Our recent hackathon at NIT Tiruchirappalli, organised by the Tata Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (TCAI&ML) in association with the Tata Consultancy Services Foundation, was an incredible journey of building, learning, debugging, and pushing ourselves beyond our limits. We built HarvestIQ - an AI-powered agricultural decision-support system designed to help farmers make smarter and more informed farming decisions. 🔹 Crop & farm analysis using Machine Learning 🔹 Personalised recommendations based on farm conditions 🔹 RAG-based agricultural knowledge for reliable information 🔹 AI-powered conversational assistance for follow-up queries 🔹 Multilingual and voice support for better accessibility From discussing the problem statement and sketching our first ideas to debugging at odd hours and presenting our solution to the judges, every stage brought a new challenge. And honestly, not everything worked on the first try 😅. But that was probably the most valuable part of the experience. It taught us how important teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, and staying calm under pressure are when building something from scratch. A heartfelt thank you to our HOD Christina Joseph and faculty advisors Silambarasan Elkana Ebinazer and Dr. Suchithra M S, along with IIIT Kottayam, for encouraging us to participate and supporting us throughout the journey. Special thanks to Dr. Ashwinth Janarthanan, Rajeswari Sridhar, Sridevi M, and all the mentors at NIT Tiruchirappalli for making the hackathon such a welcoming and memorable experience. And to my teammates N Abhi Kishore and Rohith V - thank you for the late-night debugging, discussions, ideas, and constant learning. Building HarvestIQ together made the journey even more meaningful. This hackathon gave us more than just a project - it gave us experience, perspective, and a lot of lessons to carry forward. Looking forward to building, learning, and taking on the next challenge. #NITTiruchirappalli #IIITKottayam #HarvestIQ #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #AgriTech #Innovation #Teamwork #Hackathon #TCAIML #TCS #Technology #Learning

TN Agri Budget 2026-27 🌾 The government allotted ₹231.20 crore for farm mechanization and drones. Which includes, ₹227.20 crore has been allocated under the Agricultural Mechanisation Scheme. The scheme is expected to benefit around 24,000 farmers through subsidies for machinery such as power tillers, power weeders, rotavators, and tractors. The budget also includes a separate allocation for drone training and adoption under the Vetri Vaanmagal initiative. Under this, 500 candidates (including 100 women) will receive drone operation training and pilot licences. 50 trained women will receive agricultural drones with a 50% subsidy. A total of ₹4 crore has been allocated towards drone training, licensing, and drone subsidies. Another key announcement is the proposal to establish 50 village-level Agricultural Machinery Custom Hiring Centres, making farm machinery available to farmers on a rental basis. I always mention in my post, farm mechanization is evolving rapidly, and drones are the future of farming. I felt subsidies alone don’t create impact, a proper awareness and education to adopt the right machinery for their farm operations make a huge difference. What do you think about this? Share your thoughts in the comments. #TNBudget2026 #AgriBudget #FundAllocation #FarmMechanization #AgriDrone #GovernmentInitiatives #AgriTech
