A Throwback to My Final Year Project — AquaWise Looking back at my Final Year Project from about 8 months ago — AquaWise, a web-based smart irrigation prediction system that combines Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and weather data to support more informed irrigation decisions. The main goal of AquaWise was to use agricultural and environmental data to predict irrigation requirements and help users make better decisions about when and how much to irrigate. The key features of the system included: • Machine Learning-based irrigation prediction • Weather forecasting and weather data tracking • Location-based weather data, allowing users to check weather conditions for their current location or a location of their choice • Data visualization and historical weather tracking • A web-based platform for users to interact with the prediction system For this project, I worked on data preprocessing, Machine Learning model development, prediction integration, weather data integration, and web application development. One of the things I found most interesting was connecting weather information with Machine Learning to explore how environmental conditions can contribute to smarter irrigation decisions. This project gave me valuable hands-on experience in AI, Machine Learning, data analysis, API/data integration, and web development, while allowing me to explore a real-world application of technology in agriculture. Looking back, AquaWise was an important milestone in my journey as a Computer Science student and strengthened my interest in building AI-driven solutions for real-world problems. #AquaWise #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #SmartAgriculture #PrecisionAgriculture #AgriTech #WeatherData #AI #WebDevelopment #FinalYearProject #UiTM #ComputerScience

Soil moisture monitoring systems use sensors to measure water availability in the root zone and provide actionable insights on when, where, and how much to irrigate. How does it work? 📡 Sensors measure soil moisture at selected depths 📊 Data transmission sends readings through IoT, LoRaWAN, or connected gateways ☁️ Platforms & analytics process moisture data and identify changes in soil conditions 🚨 Alerts notify farmers when moisture falls below a predefined threshold 💧 Irrigation control can trigger or adjust irrigation based on actual field conditions 📈 Historical data helps optimize irrigation schedules and improve water-use efficiency Recent Developments 🔹 May 2026: ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, inaugurated an indigenous IoT-enabled soil monitoring system developed with BIT Mesra. The system is designed to support real-time soil moisture monitoring and more precise irrigation decisions, with field calibration and evaluation underway. 🔹 April 2026: CropX introduced Apex, a multi-depth soil sensor offering high-resolution root-zone monitoring. It measures volumetric water content, soil temperature, and salinity at 4-inch intervals and integrates with the CropX digital agronomy platform for irrigation insights and agronomic analytics. 🔹 April 2026: Spire expanded its agriculture intelligence offering by combining near-real-time soil moisture observations, weather forecasts, historical data, and AI-driven insights, supporting earlier identification of crop water stress and improved irrigation planning. 🔹 March 2026: IIJ and Sony established Sensiphia, a joint venture focused on smart agriculture. Its initial plans include soil moisture sensors for greenhouse and open-field cultivation, alongside irrigation navigation services designed to support data-driven irrigation. 🔹 2026: Research is also advancing toward low-cost and sustainable moisture sensing. A Nature Communications review highlighted cellulose-based sensors capable of decentralized soil and plant monitoring, including moisture measurement, with potential for distributed precision-agriculture applications. #SoilMoisture #PrecisionAgriculture #SmartFarming #AgriTech #IoT #AgricultureTechnology #Irrigation #WaterManagement #ClimateSmartAgriculture #DigitalAgriculture #AgriculturalTechnology #SustainableAgriculture #LeadGeneration

Over a month ago, I, Kizito Horlong & the team at Wakefield Systems sat down with the team at Smartel Agritech to understand how work gets done inside the company. We went through their processes, the tools they use, the things people do every day, and the things that take up a lot of time but don’t really need a person doing them. We identified the processes that could be handled by agents and started deploying them. Over the last few weeks, we deployed agents across some of Smartel’s internal processes. They now handle things like follow-ups, internal updates, reporting, moving information between tools, and some of the repetitive work that used to take hours every week. In the first few weeks alone, the team was saving 20 to 25+ hours a week, with some processes taking less than a third of the time they used to. Nobody at Smartel had to learn some completely new way of working. The agents just started doing some of the work that was eating up their time. Last week, we got on a call with Israel Smart, Smartel’s CEO to show him what we’ve been building at Wakefield. We’re making it possible for a business to set up these agents in three steps: Tell us about your business. Connect your tools. Choose what you want automated. We believe the next generation of African businesses won’t simply use more software. They’ll have intelligent systems working alongside their people, continuously executing the operational work that currently consumes their time. That’s what we’re building at Wakefield: giving African businesses intelligent tools to become dramatically more productive. If you run a business and there’s work your team does every day that you wish you could just hand off, we want to talk to you. DM me. I want to see what we can automate.
