India’s leading agritech companies didn’t go silent on apps. They started building what apps alone couldn’t solve.
For years, many agritech pitch decks began and ended with an app, connecting farmers to buyers, credit, or advice, as if that alone was the business.
The stronger companies learned that a digital interface alone could not solve the hardest problems in agriculture.
The bigger opportunity was what happened around the app:
- after harvest
- after the loan
- between the farm and the final buyer.
That is why companies have built models combining technology with storage, finance, logistics, market access, traceability, and physical rural networks.
For example, Arya.ag combines near-farm storage with lending against stored grain and digital systems supporting trade and credit.
I see the same principle in my own farmland business. We don't just sell software to customers:
- we sell managed land.
- we track every plant from planting to harvest
- and we handle the produce through our own supply chain.
The technology matters, but it works because it is connected to execution. That is the real shift in Indian agritech.
It is not from apps to infrastructure, but from app-only businesses to integrated operating systems for agriculture.
India faces major post-harvest losses, and investment in cold-chain and food-logistics infrastructure keeps growing. The next breakthroughs may come from companies that solve how food moves, is stored, financed, and tracked, not just how it's grown.
