Nvidia just bought Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. Here's why smallholder farmers should care. The AI quietly transforming African agriculture, crop disease detection from a phone photo, yield prediction from satellite imagery, credit scoring for farmers with no bank statements, mostly runs on open-source models. Models a small team can download, fine-tune on local crops and local data, and deploy without a Silicon Valley budget. Hugging Face was the front door to all of that. Now the world's biggest chipmaker owns it. Maybe nothing changes. Nvidia profits when more people build. But agriculture in emerging markets has learned this lesson before with seeds and fertilizer: when the inputs get consolidated, the smallest players pay the price. For those of us building AI for smallholder finance, the takeaway is clear: Fine-tune and own your models. A crop-yield model trained on Ethiopian teff or Kenyan maize is an asset no acquisition can take from you. The real moat was never the base model, it's the local data and the trust of the farmers behind it. The next decade of agricultural AI in Africa shouldn't depend on decisions made in a boardroom in Santa Clara. #AgriTech #AI #FinancialInclusion #Smallholders #Africa #AgriFinance

Story of Mashrur H. Shurid: Founder & CEO of iPAGE Global Inc While most people saw farming as an old industry, Mashrur H. Shurid saw a broken system starving millions of small farmers from data, technology, and opportunity. In 2019, he co-founded iPAGE Global
and within a few years, the platform grew from helping just 52 farmers to empowering 23,000+ with AI-driven agriculture solutions. Then came the moment that changed everything a Bangladeshi AgriTech startup winning recognition at the United Nations Food Systems Summit
 but that was only the beginning of Mashrur’s bigger mission. Link: https://lnkd.in/gy_DJD7v #MashrurShurid #Founder #CEO #iPAGEGlobal #Entrepreneur

Ending this month on a good note! We were featured in Hindustan Times Hindi, following the inauguration of India's first AI-based sustainable farming pilot at the Jewar Model Farm which spans over 18 acres in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. In collaboration with Fortune Rice Limited and the support from Uttar Pradesh State Transformation Commission, we are bringing AI and IoT devices into India's paddy fields. Operating under real field conditions, the farm serves as a living demonstration site for improved rice varieties, yield-enhancing practices, and export-quality crops such as baby corn, bottle gourd, and okra. The aim extends beyond increasing yields. It is designed to help farmers unlock new income opportunities, reduce production costs, and adopt more sustainable farming practices. The inauguration also marked the opening of the Jewar Crop Clinic, providing farmers with access to crop diagnosis services, on-site crop and soil testing, and trusted agricultural inputs, all under one roof. Together with our partners, we believe this is an important step toward a future where technology empowers farmers with the insights they need to make better decisions. For millions of Indian farmers, accessing a crop loan has traditionally meant multiple bank visits, lengthy paperwork, and weeks of waiting. Recognizing this long-standing challenge, veteran bankers Timmana Gouda D and Vidhya TG founded WhatsLoan NeoLending Platform (WTSLN Fintech Pvt. Ltd.) in Bengaluru to make agricultural credit faster, simpler, and more accessible. Built on the Reserve Bank of India’s Unified Lending Interface (ULI) ecosystem, WhatsLoan has created a digital lending platform that integrates Aadhaar, DigiLocker, digital land records, AgriStack, and satellite-based crop intelligence to streamline loan processing for rural borrowers. The platform has already helped more than 5 lakh farmers and over 1.2 million rural and low-income customers over the past five years, significantly improving access to Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans and other financial services. What earlier took weeks can now be completed digitally in just a few minutes, enabling farmers to access timely credit during critical sowing seasons. The founders combined decades of banking experience with a deep understanding of rural India to build a Loan-as-a-Service (LaaS) platform for Public Sector Banks, Regional Rural Banks, Cooperative Banks, NBFCs, AgriTech companies, and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Beyond agricultural lending, WhatsLoan is expanding its digital credit ecosystem for rural households and micro-entrepreneurs through initiatives such as AgriLoan Marketplace, Digital Financial Identity (DFID), and cashflow-based lending under schemes including PM Mudra, PM Vishwakarma, PMFME, PMEGP, and the Agri Infrastructure Fund (AIF). The startup has also earned recognition from leading innovation ecosystems, including IIM Bangalore NSRCEL, NITI Aayog, MeitY, YourStory Tech30, and TiE, while actively collaborating with the RBI Innovation Hub to strengthen digital agricultural lending. With technology at its core, WhatsLoan is demonstrating how India's Digital Public Infrastructure can make institutional credit faster, more transparent, and more accessible for millions of farmers, rural households, and low-income entrepreneurs—bridging the gap between formal banking and rural Bharat. Here is what each of the 8 strains in Fabino Bio-Fertilizer Capsules (with 1 Trillion+ CFU) (manufactured by ICAR-IISR patented technology) does specifically for Napier grass: ① Azo Pro Capsule — Azospirillum spp. (Bio Urea) Azospirillum is the most studied grass-associated PGPR on earth. Azospirillum colonizes hundreds of grass species and delivers grain/biomass yield increases of 9.5–14% through field-level nitrogen fixation and phytohormone (IAA) production. More tillers. More N in each tiller. More total fresh biomass per cut. ② AZOTO BIO PRO CAPS — Azotobacter spp. Azotobacter chroococcum is a free-living nitrogen fixer that fixes 10–25 kg N/ha/year independently and produces cyst structures that survive drought, heat, and soil pH fluctuations — the exact stress conditions of Indian Napier grass cultivation. Helps in sustained N delivery across 6–8 cuts per year, even under summer heat stress. ⑱ Aceto Bio Pro Capsule — Acetobacter (Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus) This is the most relevant strain for Napier grass biologically. Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus is an endophytic diazotroph — it colonizes the internal stem and root tissue of C4 grasses, fixes nitrogen within the plant, and protects it from soil leaching. Helps in internal N fixation that no rainfall or root washing can remove. ④ PSB Pro Capsule — Phosphate-Solubilizing Bacteria Only 1.0–2.5% of the 400–1,000 mg/kg total phosphorus in Indian soils is plant-available. The rest is locked as insoluble calcium phosphate, iron phosphate, and aluminium phosphate — invisible to crops. PSB unlocks it through organic acid secretion. More available P = more shoots per plant per cut. â‘€ Fab Potash Pro Capsule — Potassium-Mobilizing Bacteria (KMB) Potassium governs cell wall rigidity, water transport, and rapid regrowth between cuttings. Without it, inter-cut recovery time lengthens — directly reducing annual cutting cycles. â‘„ NPK PRO — Azotobacter + PSB + KMB Consortium The single most practical SKU for commercial-scale Napier cultivation. One capsule delivers the 3 most evidence-backed mechanisms simultaneously — nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, and potassium mobilization — with no need to manage multiple products across large acreages or outgrower contracts. What is the per-hectare biomass yield gap between your current Napier cultivation and what peer-reviewed science says is achievable with proper soil microbiology? That is not a sustainability story. That is an economics story. From orchards to AI labs—Singapore tech met Wuxi đŸŒ±đŸ€–   July 2026, a group of Singaporean AI startups swapped city skylines for peach orchards—and smart factories—in Wuxi! 🌳🏭   As part of the “Intelligent Convergence · Digital China-Singapore” initiative, they spent three days exploring real-world tech applications across manufacturing, health, and agri-tech, hosted by Wuxi High-Tech Zone, Wuxi-Singapore Science & Technology Innovation City and Transfong Ventures. Not just to showcase Wuxi’s ecosystem, but to create space for honest dialogue: What problems are local industries actually trying to solve? Where could external tech add value—without forcing a square peg into a round hole?   The itinerary mixed structured visits with open-ended chats:   – Walking the floor at smart manufacturing facilities to see how automation is actually deployed   – Discussing data privacy and clinical workflows with health-tech enablers   – Standing in an orchard learning how sensors, soil analytics, and traceability systems are quietly reshaping agriculture   What surprised many Singaporean founders wasn’t just Wuxi’s industrial depth—it was the willingness of local teams to share constraints, ask tough questions, and explore whether a given solution truly fits. No buzzword bingo. Just practical curiosity.   On the final evening, over dinner (and yes, fresh Yangshan peaches!), conversations shifted from “what we do” to “how we might work together”—not with grand announcements, but with genuine interest in learning each other’s rhythms.   This kind of cross-border exchange won’t move the needle overnight. But it builds something harder to scale: trust, context, and shared language. And that’s often where real collaboration begins.   Huge thanks to all partners and participants for keeping it real. More to explore—and more peaches to share—down the road. 🍑   #AI #CrossBorderInnovation #SingaporeTech #Wuxi #StartupExchange #DeepTech #AgriTech #HealthTech #BuildWithContext #ASEANChinaCollaboration
