Proud to share that I secured 1st Position in the Poster Competition held on Green Day under the Green Youth Movement (GYM) at Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUET)! My poster was titled: "IoT-Based Smart Irrigation: A Sustainable Solution for Water Conservation in Agriculture" The Problem: Agriculture accounts for nearly 70% of global freshwater use, and traditional irrigation practices are highly inefficient—losing up to 50% of water to waste. In regions already facing water scarcity, this is a major concern. The Solution: I proposed an IoT-driven smart irrigation system integrated with machine learning algorithms to optimize water use without compromising crop yield. Key Highlights of the Study: Location: Semi-arid region (e.g., Rajasthan, India) Tools Used: Soil moisture, temperature, and humidity sensors connected to a cloud-based ML model (Random Forest) Trial Duration: 6 months Results: ✅40% reduction in water usage ✅Maintained similar crop yield as traditional methods ✅30% cost savings on water Conclusion: Smart irrigation, powered by IoT and AI, is a scalable and sustainable solution to address water scarcity in agriculture. While initial setup costs exist, the long-term environmental and economic benefits are significant. I’m incredibly grateful to GYM and KFUET for the opportunity to present my work and to be recognized for it. Agrofloresta em Alta: Áreas Degradadas e Déficit de Reserva Legal Podem se Tornar Tesouros Verdes. As propriedades rurais com áreas degradadas ou déficit de Reserva Legal deixaram de ser um problema e estão se tornando grandes oportunidades econômicas e ambientais. A nova tendência no campo é unir produtividade com recuperação ambiental, por meio da agrofloresta, um sistema que imita o funcionamento natural das florestas, integrando espécies agrícolas, frutíferas e madeireiras em harmonia com a natureza. Da obrigação à oportunidade. O Código Florestal Brasileiro exige que cada propriedade mantenha uma parte de sua área como Reserva Legal, variando de 20% a 80%, conforme o bioma. Para muitos produtores, isso sempre foi visto como uma exigência difícil de cumprir. Mas agora, com os avanços das práticas de restauração produtiva, é possível recompor a vegetação nativa com retorno financeiro, transformando o passivo ambiental em ativo econômico. Agrofloresta: lucro e biodiversidade no mesmo espaço. A agrofloresta alia cultivos agrícolas e florestais em sistemas sustentáveis. Espécies como cacau, açaí, cupuaçu, castanha, banana e café sombreado podem ser combinadas com árvores nativas, garantindo: • Produção contínua de alimentos e madeira; • Aumento da fertilidade do solo e retenção de água; • Recuperação da fauna e flora nativas; • Créditos de carbono e PSA (Pagamento por Serviços Ambientais). Além de restaurar o equilíbrio ecológico, a agrofloresta se destaca por gerar renda para o produtor, fortalecer a segurança alimentar e contribuir para o cumprimento das metas climáticas do Brasil. Valorização de terras e geração de créditos. Propriedades com projetos de restauração em agrofloresta passam a ter valorização fundiária, acesso facilitado a linhas de crédito verde e podem emitir créditos de carbono, certificados em programas como REDD+ e PSA. Esses créditos representam a captura ou a não emissão de CO₂, gerando uma nova fonte de receita para o produtor rural comprometido com a sustentabilidade. O campo no centro da transição ecológica. O avanço da economia verde coloca o agricultor como protagonista da recuperação ambiental e da produção sustentável. Em vez de áreas improdutivas e abandonadas, as agroflorestas criam paisagens vivas, férteis e lucrativas, mostrando que é possível produzir e conservar ao mesmo tempo. “Cada hectare recuperado é uma semente de futuro: produz, protege e transforma o campo em um verdadeiro tesouro verde.”
