🌾$20 Million Boost to Protect Indian Farmers from Climate Risks In a big step toward climate resilience, Kshema General Insurance has raised $20 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for its project — “Harnessing Insurance for Climate Resilience in Indian Agriculture.” This initiative focuses on: ✅ Expanding microinsurance for small and marginal farmers facing climate-induced losses. ✅ Strengthening Kshema’s ability to underwrite climate-related crop risks. ✅ Enhancing the Kshema Cognitive Engine, a tech platform offering customized insurance, weather alerts, and crop health insights. 💪 Why This Matters This is GCF’s first-ever investment in a microinsurance initiative, and it’s designed to protect the 86% of India’s agricultural population that remains uninsured. Sustainable life on Mars or the Moon needs self-sufficient food systems. Controlled environment farming in space is pushing the limits of agri-innovation right here on Earth, too. How it’s happening: NASA and ESA are testing hydroponic, aeroponic, and LED-based systems aboard the ISS. Researchers are experimenting with Martian and lunar soil simulants to grow crops like lettuce and potatoes. Advances in microbial bioengineering could recycle waste into nutrients, creating closed-loop ecosystems.  Back on Earth: Space farming tech is already reshaping agriculture  from smart greenhouses to precision irrigation and climate-adaptive crops.
