I have not been posting much on Linkedin, but this is important & special.
Indonesia is, at its core, an agricultural nation.
Nearly 30% of our people work in agriculture, making it a vital engine of our economy and a lifeline for millions. We sit on some of the most fertile land in the world, supported by a land bank many countries can only dream of. With food security placed as a national priority, Indonesia has all the ingredients to lead.
But the reality remains tough.
Farmer incomes are low, yields lag global benchmarks, and the system is fragmented. Recent negative press around agritech governance has also slowed investor and founder interest. Yet beneath these challenges lies enormous untapped potential — and the innovation ecosystem must continue to push forward.
Over the past months, I’ve been working with Rama Mamuaya and the Daily Social team to understand the real landscape of Indonesia’s agriculture sector. We spoke with leaders who have already proven what’s possible: Tommy Wattimena shared that Great Giant Foods, is indeed the world’s largest pineapple producer. We also home for largest & the most integrated coconut operations globally, some of the world’s best cacao and coffee origins, and the longest coastline on earth — giving us unmatched potential in fish and seaweed.
We also connected with a new wave of founders - Eratani, Kreasi Pangan, Agrari, Chickin Indonesia, and more - who are reshaping how Indonesia grows, manages, and distributes food.
Other countries have shown what’s possible.
Brazil transformed itself within a single generation into a global food powerhouse. Indonesia can do the same — with alignment, collaboration, and a shared vision.
To support this movement, together we are preparing a comprehensive industry white paper and hosting the Indonesia Food Resilience Forum 2025 this December, bringing together leaders, innovators, policymakers, and founders to discuss the path forward.
If you’re in agriculture — or simply care about Indonesia’s food future — pls join our conversation. The forum will be limited to 200 pax, for decision makers, leaders, investors and policymakers in the agri industry. Register your interest to attend with info below.
